Left atrial myopathy in rheumatic mitral stenosis; three-dimensional and speckle tracking echocardiography study.

BACKGROUND: In developing countries, rheumatic mitral valve stenosis (MS) is still a problem and its progression leads to left atrial (LA) damage. Due to the complexity of the LA geometry, currently used techniques like antero-posterior dimension (LAD) and 2D echo derived LA volume (LAV) have several limitations that are corrected by 3D derived LA volumes in addition to functional evaluation. PURPOSE: To assess the LA functions using 2D speckle tracking echocardiography and 3D transthoracic echocardiography in patients with clinically significant MS in comparison to normal healthy subjects.

Pre-trained Artificial Intelligence Models in the Prediction and Classification of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease.

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is one of the leading causes of global morbidity and mortality. The current study provides a systematic review of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies applied to the prediction and management of ASCVD. Traditional risk assessment approaches have their restrictions, leading to a growing preference for AI and machine learning techniques in risk assessment. First, this study tackles the complex pathophysiology of ASCVD and the problems associated with the current diagnosis, followed by an in-depth analysis of the wide variety of AI mo

Feasibility and acceptability of peer-led assessment of HIV risk among female sex workers in Zimbabwe.

INTRODUCTION: Female sex workers (FSWs) in sub-Saharan Africa are at higher risk of HIV acquisition and transmission. However, FSWs' life experiences are heterogeneous and are important to characterise in order to tailor responses to individual needs. Peer microplanners are FSWs trained to engage other FSWs and offer each individual a tailored package of support. We sought to assess the feasibility, acceptability and fidelity of implementing peer-led assessments of risk. METHODS: Between December 2020 and August 2021, we conducted a qualitative process evaluation study of the Adapted Micropla

The Correlation Between Odontogenic Infection and Total Spectrum of Dental Caries with Oral Health Related Quality of Life in Children with Intellectual Disabilities.

OBJECTIVE: : Children with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) have a higher rate of untreated caries and often progress to caries with pulpal involvement or odontogenic infections. This can be assessed using the Caries Assessment Spectrum and Treatment (CAST) index and the Pulp Ulcer Fistula Abscess (PUFA) index. Dental problems often have an impact on quality of life, so Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) assessment is needed for ID children. PURPOSE: To identify and analyze the correlation between odontogenic infection, the total spectrum of caries, and OHRQoL in ID children. METHODS

Understanding the clinical management of co-occurring sleep-related bruxism and obstructive sleep apnea in adults: A narrative and critical review.

Sleep-related bruxism (SRB) is a motor oral behavior characterized by tooth grinding and jaw clenching activity, reported by 8%-12% of the adult general population and 3% of older individuals. The frequency of one of its biomarkers, rhythmic masticatory muscle activity (RMMA), remains elevated across ages. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with the brief and repetitive pause of breathing (apnea) and with transient reduction in oxygen (hypoxia). OSA is observed at all ages and in about 50% of older individuals with a male preponderance. SRB clinical assessment is based on self-reporti

Management of pain in Fabry disease in the UK clinical setting: consensus findings from an expert Delphi panel.

BACKGROUND: Fabry disease is a rare, X-linked inherited lysosomal storage disorder, that manifests as a heterogeneous disease with renal, cardiac and nervous system involvement. The most common pain experienced by people with Fabry disease are episodes of neuropathic pain reported in up to 80% of classical hemizygous male patients and up to 65% of heterozygous female patients. No clear consensus exists within UK clinical practice for the assessment and management of pain in Fabry disease based on agreed clinical practice and clinical experience. Here we describe a modified Delphi initiative to

Community-driven governance of FAIRness assessment: an open issue, an open discussion.

Although FAIR Research Data Principles are targeted at and implemented by different communities, research disciplines, and research stakeholders (data stewards, curators, etc.), there is no conclusive way to determine the level of FAIRness intended or required to make research artefacts (including, but not limited to, research data) Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. The FAIR Principles cover all types of digital objects, metadata, and infrastructures. However, they focus their narrative on data features that support their reusability. FAIR defines principles, not standards, an

Psychosocial Outcomes Among Veteran and Non-Veteran Survivors of Sexual Assault.

Although it is well-established that sexual assault results in variable and long-lasting negative impacts on emotional well-being, perceptions of physical health, and relationship functioning, these "psychosocial" outcomes may vary based on the type(s) of sexual trauma experienced. To identify the differential impact of sexual trauma type(s) on psychosocial outcomes among veterans and non-veterans, we conducted a secondary analysis of data from the Comparative Health Assessment Interview Research Study, a large, national survey study sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
