Revealing the unique clinical characteristics of subarachnoid hemorrhage in young adults.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a severe condition with high morbidity and mortality rates. While SAH is well-documented in the general population, its characteristics in young adults remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the specific features of young adults with SAH and to identify predictors of clinical outcomes following SAH in young adults. This retrospective study included 894 patients with aneurysmal SAH who underwent surgical clipping or endovascular treatment between 2012 and 2024. Patients were divided into two groups: the young adult group (< 40 years) and the older adult

Modeling the Impact of Time to Treatment on Syphilis Prevalence: A Theoretical Mathematical Model of People Living With HIV in Colombia.

BACKGROUND: Syphilis disproportionately affects people living with HIV (PLWH). Although screening is widely done for syphilis control, there are significant delays with time to treatment reaching 30 days in some settings in Colombia. Our study aimed to model the impact of reducing time to treatment on syphilis prevalence among PLWH in Colombia. METHODS: We developed a compartmental model to simulate syphilis transmission dynamics among PLWH, considering different stages of disease. The model included screening and treatment pathways and stratified the population into high (10%) and low (90%)

Molecular Models of Toxoplasma gondii in Humans and Animals.

Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) is an obligate intracellular, zoonotic protozoan parasite of interest to physicians and veterinarians with its highly complex structure. It is known to infect about one-third of the world's population. Since it is a zoonotic disease, it is necessary to keep the animal population under control in order to prevent human exposure. Many studies have been conducted on the detection of T. gondii and it has been determined that there are three clonal groups consisting of types 1, 2, 3. Developments in molecular studies have led to changes in the taxonomy and new developm

Changes in Health Indicators Among Caregivers - United States, 2015-2016 to 2021-2022.

Caregivers provide support to persons who might otherwise require placement in long-term care facilities. Approximately one in five U.S. adults provides care to family members or friends who have a chronic health condition or disability. Promoting the well-being of this large segment of the population is a public health priority as recognized by the 2022 National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers. Although negative associations between caregiving and caregiver health are known, changes in the health status of caregivers over time are not. Data from the 2015-2016 and 2021-2022 Behavioral Ri

Swim, Strength, or Combined Programs: Effect on Health-Related Physical Fitness in Adolescents With Down Syndrome.

The adolescent population with Down syndrome (DS) appears to show higher levels of body fat and lower levels of cardiorespiratory fitness or muscle strength than their peers without disabilities. There is a need to create physical activity programs to improve these data. The aim of this research was to determine the effects of a 16-week swimming program, strength program, and combined program (swimming and strength training) on body composition and health-related physical fitness on adolescents with DS and to assess whether there are differences in the results of the different training program

Serological and molecular survey of rat hepatitis E virus (Rocahepevirus ratti) in drug users.

ABSTRACTRat hepatitis E virus (ratHEV) is an emerging cause of acute hepatitis of zoonotic origin. Since seroprevalence studies are scarce, at-risk groups are almost unknown. Because blood-borne infections frequently occur in people with drug use, who are particularly vulnerable to infection due to lack of housing and homelessness, this population constitutes a priority in which ratHEV infection should be evaluated. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the ratHEV seroprevalence and RNA detection rate in drug users as a potential at-risk population. We designed a retrospective study

Measurement invariance of brief forms of the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire across convenience versus random samples.

Schizotypy, a multifaceted personality construct that represents liability for schizophrenia, is generally measured with self-report questionnaires that have been developed and validated in samples of undergraduate students. Given that understanding schizotypy in non-clinical samples is essential for furthering our understanding of schizophrenia-spectrum psychopathologies, it is critical to test whether non-clinically identified undergraduate and other convenience samples respond to schizotypy scales in the same way as random samples of the general population. Here, 651 undergraduates, 350 MTu

Evaluation of myopia-associated genes in a Han Chinese population with high myopia.

BACKGROUND: High myopia is a leading cause of blindness worldwide. However, the exact etiology and mechanism of high myopia remain unclear. Previous genome-wide association study has demonstrated that nine single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in East and Southeast Asian populations were associated with high myopia and proved that the nervous system was involved in the pathogenesis of high myopia. The present study was conducted to investigate whether these genetic variants retinal nervous system-related were associated with high myopia among Han Chinese. METHODS: Seven SNPs were genotyped b

Pharmacogenomic evaluation of CYP2C19 alleles linking low clopidogrel response and the risk of acute coronary syndrome in Indians.

BACKGROUND: Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet drug widely prescribed to prevent atherothrombotic events in coronary artery disease patients. However, there is evidence to suggest that the effectiveness of clopidogrel varies owing to genetic diversity in CYP2C19. This heterogeneity in South Asians, who are also known to have high risk of cardiac events than other population groups, highlights the importance of investigating CYP2C19 variants to estimate the risk proportion in the groups. METHODS: Given the high prevalence and genetic heterogeneity, the population-based case control was conducted i…

Identification of the needs of children with neurodisability and their families at different stages of development: A qualitative study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Within the field of childhood neurodisability, the tendency in the study of needs has been to categorize them based on ability (motor, verbal, cognitive). However, current perspectives such as F-words, family-centered practices, or the principles of family empowerment, lead the researcher to ask: What are these needs according to the stage of development? METHODS AND ANALYSIS: A descriptive qualitative study will be carried out. Several methods will be followed to ensure the reliability and validity of the results, and the Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research and the Conso
