[Evaluation of antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties of strain Lactobacillus casei 114001 in carbon tetrachloride-induced liver toxicity model].

Daily oral administration to rats of probiotic strain Lactobacillus casei 114001 (L.c.) at dose 2,8 x 10(10) cfu/rat during 8 days reduced oxidative stress and liver lesions, induced by a single intraperitoneal administration of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) at dose 0.5 ml/kg b.w. It was evidenced by several histopathological and biochemical markers, characteristic for CCl4 toroxicity. Membrane damage by toxin was reduced in rats, treated with L.c.: alanine aminotransferase activity in plasma and nonsedimentable activity of lysosomal enzymes in liver were significantly decreased. Treatment with

A new biological agent for treatment of Shiga toxigenic Escherichia coli infections and dysentery in humans.

Gastrointestinal disease caused by Shiga toxin-producing bacteria (such as Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Shigella dysenteriae) is often complicated by life-threatening toxin-induced systemic sequelae, including hemolytic-uremic syndrome. Such infections can now be diagnosed very early in the course of the disease, but at present no effective therapeutic intervention is possible. Here, we constructed a recombinant bacterium that displayed a Shiga toxin receptor mimic on its surface, and it adsorbed and neutralized Shiga toxins with very high efficiency. Moreover, oral administration of the recom

Lactobacillus Modulates the Rumen Microbiota and Transcriptome to Enhance Nutrient Digestion in Yaks Fed High-Concentrate Diets During the Cold Season.

Intensive yak fattening in cold alpine regions requires essential long-term high-concentration feeding, which disrupts rumen microbial homeostasis and causes inefficient digestion of nutrients. Lactobacillus may have probiotic potential for ruminants, yet its regulation of rumen function is poorly understood under high-energy diets. During a 120-day feeding experiment, 120 male Pamir yaks were allocated to four dietary treatments, with LEG and LLG serving as the primary comparison for evaluating 0.02% Lactobacillus supplementation to explore the regulatory effects of Lactobacillus supplementat

Nano/microencapsulation of feed additives for ruminal microbiome modulation and enteric methane mitigation in ruminants: a critical review.

The latest advances in nutrition, microbiology, and omics sciences are redefining strategies to improve health indices and productivity in livestock. A novel strategy focuses on the deliberate modulation of rumen and intestinal microbiome ecosystems, which, besides being complex, are crucial for animal performance. The use of feed additives, such as bioactive compounds derived from plants and probiotics, has a long tradition supported by their known antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties, among others. However, their practical efficacy is often compromised by their high s…

Proton pump inhibitor exposure modulates functional and transcriptional responses in Lactobacillus acidophilus: a comprehensive computational and experimental insights.

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are among the most widely prescribed medications for gastric acid-related disorders. However, their effect on the gut microbiota remains incompletely understood, despite emerging evidence suggesting potential long-term alterations in microbial composition and reductions in beneficial taxa. In this study, Lactobacillus acidophilus, a well-known probiotic species, was used as a representative model organism to investigate the microbiological effects of PPIs. This specific bacterium is linked to immune modulation, vitamin metabolism, and the preservation of the epith
