The sense of coherence concept and its relation to personality traits in Swedish samples.

The paper proposes that Antonovsky's salutogenic orientation and his sense of coherence (SOC) concept provide a sound theoretical basis for the study and strengthening of the caring component in clinical practice. In order to study the operational utility of the concept, the 29-item SOC questionnaire (in two formats) was administered to five Swedish samples (3 groups of nurses, patients in a hospital emergency department, and a general population sample). Psychometric data are provided which test the internal and test-retest reliability of the SOC scale. A Self-Motivation Inventory (SMI) and t

[Delusions of parasitic skin infestation in elderly dermatologic patients].

In a study on 21 patients, who had been treated at the Erlangen Dept. Dermat. for delusion of parasitosis during the last 17 years, we compiled catamnestic data, evaluated the personality profiles, and focussed upon the interrelations between the clinical symptoms, the outcome of various psychological tests, and the course of the disease. Our sociographic results agreed well with those of earlier studies (i.e. social isolation, conflicts in or loss of partnership and sexuality). Nearly half of the patients complained about depressive moods which, however, could not be psychometrically proved.

Psychological correlates of hostility among patients undergoing coronary angiography.

The Cook-Medley Hostility (Ho) scale (Cook & Medley, 1954) has been associated with increased risk for coronary heart disease (CHD). There is relatively little information about the psychosocial correlates of the Ho scale in clinical or adult populations, however. In this study, 132 patients (mean age = 53 years) referred for diagnostic coronary angiography completed a battery of self-report questionnaires including the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), Hopkins Symptom Check List (SCL-90), State-Trait Personality Inventory (STPI), Type A Self-Rating Inventory (TASRI), and Per

[Neuropsychological symptomatology in normal pressure hydrocephalus].

The neuropsychological observations of 63 patients undergoing surgery for "normal pressure hydrocephalus" (NPH) have been analyzed retrospectively. To make a semiological picture of mental disturbances in NPH, the level of consciousness, behaviour and cognitive functions were studied. A neuropsychological investigation of the main cognitive functions (language, gnosis, praxis, calculation, memory) enables us to specify the characteristics of dementia shown by these patients. A mental picture of the most frequent neuropsychological signs is described. The mental syndrome which characterized NPH

Seizure prognosis in long-stay mentally subnormal epileptic patients: interrater EEG and clinical studies.

Two groups of long-stay mentally subnormal epileptic patients, those with a chronically high seizure frequency and those who had become seizure-free, were studied for clinical and EEG factors relating to the prognosis of seizures. The mean period of observation was 20 and 22 years, respectively. All patients had a detailed clinical examination including psychometric testing, and for each, two EEG records were selected for blind semi-quantitative interrater analysis: an admission EEG and an EEG obtained within 6 months of the start of the study. Early onset of seizures, a high initial seizure f

Instruments for assessing healthcare professionals' knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding deprescribing: a scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Deprescribing is a multiprofessional process which aims to optimize medication use and improve patient safety, in which healthcare professionals' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) play a central role. The instruments used to assess KAP among nurses, pharmacists and physicians remain poorly characterised in terms of scope and measurement quality. AIM: To map and characterize the instruments used to assess healthcare professionals' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding deprescribing. METHOD: A scoping review was conducted following Joaassess healthcaree (JBI) meth

Validation of The Acceptance & Action Diabetes Questionnaire in Spanish (AADQ-S).

BACKGROUND: Diabetes is a devastating disease that disproportionately affects Hispanic/Latino/ Latinx (H/L) populations. Assessing factors that influence diabetes outcomes is crucial, including diabetes acceptance, which is linked to better glycemic control, improved physical and mental health, and enhanced quality of life. The Acceptance and Action Diabetes Questionnaire (AADQ) is an established measure of diabetes acceptance, available in five languages. However, despite the incidence of diabetes in H/L communities being more than twice that of non-Hispanic White patients, no Spanish-languag

Development and validation of a Quality of Life and Treatment Satisfaction measure in feline osteoarthritis.

INTRODUCTION: Osteoarthritis (OA) in cats causes pain and mobility impairment, negatively impacting quality of life (QoL) of cats and their owners. Owner-perceived treatment satisfaction can influence treatment adherence and subsequent health outcomes for the cat. Currently, no OA-specific instrument for cats assesses all three concepts. This study aimed to address this gap by developing and psychometrically evaluating an owner-completed feline OA-specific measure-the "Feline OA Quality of Life and Treatment Satisfaction Assessment" (FeOA-QoL-TS-A)-to measure cat QoL, owner QoL, and owner trea

Complex affect dynamics offer limited incremental value for cross-sectional prediction of psychological and behavioural variables in cross-validated models.

BACKGROUND: There is growing interest in the use of end-of-day dairies (EODD) as a means for quantifying how individuals' affective experiences fluctuate over time, and how such dynamics relate to mental health variables. A plethora of methods exist for precisely quantifying these affect dynamics, but recent work pooling data from multiple studies has suggested that most of the variance in outcome measures of depression, borderline symptoms, and life satisfaction is captured by simple measures, such as the mean (M) and standard deviation (SD) of affect ratings over time. Ever-more sophisticate

Stigmatization related to cutaneous neurofibromas in neurofibromatosis 1: development, validation and severity strata of the cNF-PUSH-D.

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous neurofibromas (cNFs) are benign skin tumours affecting over 95% of individuals with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Their visible appearance often leads to altered body image, social isolation and discrimination. Although stigma is a well-recognized burden in NF1 and has been identified by the Response Evaluation in Neurofibromatosis and Schwannomatosis consortium as a key outcome subdomain for future cNF clinical trials, no specific tool has been developed to assess stigma in relation to cNFs. OBJECTIVES: To adapt, develop and validate a patient-reported outcome measure

Comparing plasma levels and ratios of tryptophan, serotonin, kynurenine and quinolinic acid between patients with bipolar disorder and healthy controls: impact of depressive episode or post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a chronic mental illness displaying recurrent episodes of impaired mood, in alternance with euthymic or subsyndromal periods. The comorbidity between BD and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is attracting attention due to its frequency, diagnostic difficulties, and worsening prognosis. Consequently, identifying molecular substrates of post-traumatic vs. depressive symptoms in BD would provide much benefit for patients' rescue. This study thus focused on tryptophan (TRP) metabolism, at the crossroad between neurotransmission, immunity and inflammation, u

Reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the pain attention and awareness questionnaire for nonspecific musculoskeletal pain.

BACKGROUND: Reliable and valid assessments of pain vigilance and awareness are crucial for understanding and treating pain within cognitive-behavioral frameworks, such as the fear-Avoidance Model. While the Pain Vigilance and Awareness Questionnaire (PVAQ) is a widely used tool for this purpose, no culturally adapted and validated version exists for the Turkish-speaking population, creating an instrumental and clinical gap. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and comprehensively evaluate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the PVAQ in a sample of patie

Pilot validation of the genital psoriasis reported outcomes questionnaire in an Italian cohort.

BACKGROUND: Genital psoriasis is a highly impactful but frequently under-recognized manifestation of psoriasis, associated with pain, burning, pruritus, and substantial impairment in sexual, relational, and emotional wellbeing. Existing patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), such as the Genital Psoriasis Symptoms Scale (GPSS) and the Genital Psoriasis Sexual Frequency Questionnaire (GenPs-SFQ), evaluate isolated domains (physical symptoms or sexual functioning) and do not provide a multidimensional assessment of the specific burden associated with genital psoriasis. To address this gap, th

Translation, cultural adaptation, and validation of the perceived Artificial Intelligence Literacy Questionnaire-6 (PAILQ-6) in Arabic-speaking pharmacists: A cross-sectional methodological study.

BACKGROUND: The growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare and pharmacy has increased the need to determine whether pharmacists are prepared to understand, assess, and use AI-supported technologies responsibly. Arabic-speaking pharmacy settings currently lack a validated Arabic instrument specifically designed to assess pharmacists' perceived AI literacy. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the Arabic version of the Perceived Artificial Intelligence Literacy Questionnaire (PAILQ-6) and to examine demographic and professional factors associated with perc

Development and validation of the Mental Toughness Scale for Chinese Snow Sports Athletes: a mixed-methods study.

INTRODUCTION: Mental toughness is a key psychological resource that enables athletes to sustain goal-directed engagement, regulate internal states, and maintain consistent performance under pressure, adversity, and uncertainty. Snow sports are strongly influenced by weather and snow conditions, take place in complex training and competition environments, and involve varying degrees of risk. These characteristics require athletes to cope with stress, maintain attentional control, and adapt to changing performance conditions. Existing measures of mental toughness have been developed mainly for g

A Systematic Scoping Review of Measures Used to Evaluate Treatment-Induced Changes in Depression, Anxiety, and Chronic Stress in People with Post-Stroke Aphasia.

BACKGROUND: People with aphasia have an increased risk of developing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and chronic stress - all of which interfere with rehabilitation and limit functional outcomes. Interventions addressing the mental health needs of people with aphasia are critically important and rapidly emerging. Most self-rated questionnaires are highly language-dependent. It is unclear how aphasia researchers are managing this potential study limitation. AIMS: To examine how treatment-induced changes in depression, anxiety, and chronic stress are currently being measured in people with str
