Management of external jugular vein aneurysm: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Aneurysms of the jugular vein system are rare and high clinical suspicion is needed for diagnosis. External jugular vein aneurysms (EJVA) are considered innocent lesions that need treatment mainly for aesthetic reasons. The aim of this systematic review was to present current literature regarding diagnosis and management of EJVAs. METHODS: A literature review was conducted through the Pubmed/Medline and Scopus regarding articles referring on EJVA from 2000 to 2020. Using the PRISMA guidelines (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses), 30 articles were

Evaluating Viscoelastic Properties of the Wrist Joint During External Perturbations: Influence of Velocity, Grip, and Handedness.

In this study, we designed a robot-based method to compute a mechanical impedance model that could extract the viscoelastic properties of the wrist joint. Thirteen subjects participated in the experiment, testing both dominant and nondominant hands. Specifically, the robotic device delivered position-controlled disturbances in the flexion-extension degree of freedom of the wrist. The external perturbations were characterized by small amplitudes and fast velocities, causing rotation at the wrist joint. The viscoelastic characteristics of the mechanical impedance of the joint were evaluated from

Multimodality imaging manifestations of Rosai-Dorfman disease.

BACKGROUND: Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare lympho-histiocytic disorder of indeterminate etiology usually presenting with lymph node involvement, and infrequently with extra-nodal manifestations. The diagnosis of this condition is challenging due to the wide spectrum of disease manifestations. PURPOSE: To elucidate the radiologic features of this disease using multimodality imaging in histopathologically proven cases and to identify characteristic features that would enable its differentiation from its mimics. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated imaging studies of 19 pat

Uncommon Localization of Extrarenal Xp11.2 Translocation-associated Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC): Case Report.

The World Health Organization has recognized Xp11.2 translocation-associated renal cell carcinoma (RCC) as a distinct neoplasm that arises within the kidney. Although many reports of extrarenal carcinoma may be found in the literature, to the best of our knowledge, Xp11 translocation-associated RCC with intact kidneys has not been documented. This report describes a multilobulated right retroperitoneal soft tissue mass (7.9×5.3×12.6 cm) of a 37-year-old man complaining of abdominal pain in the right side. The patient underwent a computed tomography-guided biopsy. Microscopic evaluation reveals

Intracranial malignant solitary fibrous tumor metastasized to the chest wall: A case report and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare fibroblastic mesenchymal neoplasm that affects spindle cell soft tissues with broad-spectrum biological behavior; it is predominantly benign, and rarely metastasizes. SFT occurs mainly in the tissue structure of the serosa in the pleura and the thorax, and can be found throughout the body, though extra-thoracic localization, including the cephalic region, is un-common. We reported the first case of intracranial malignant SFT metastasized to the chest wall. CASE SUMMARY: An 81-year-old Japanese man was referred to our hospital due to progressi

The importance of mesorectum motion in determining PTV margins in rectal cancer patients treated with neoadjuvant radiotherapy.

New precision radiotherapy (RT) techniques reduce the uncertainties in localizing soft and moving tumors. However, there are still many uncontrollable internal organ movements. In our study, patients who underwent neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NA-CRT) for rectal cancer were evaluated to determine inter-fraction mesorectum motion and dosimetric changes. Fourteen patients treated with NA-CRT for rectal cancer between 2014 and 2016 were included in the analysis. The mesorectum and clinical target volume (CTV) were delineated on planning computed tomography (CT) and cone-beam CT (CB-CT) scans. Af

A case of spontaneous mesenteric hematoma with diagnostic difficulty.

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous mesenteric hematoma (SMH) is a rare condition characterized by intraperitoneal hemorrhage of unknown etiology. SMH without worsening of general status allows conservative management; however, patients showing chronological changes on imaging require surgical intervention to rule out possible malignancy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 69-year-old man was referred to our hospital to evaluate an abdominal mass with no associated clinical symptoms. He had a history of chronic hepatitis C and diabetes mellitus. Six months earlier, computed tomography (CT) revealed a 75-mm tumor arisi
