A 53-year-old woman with steroid-treated clinical sarcoidosis was subjected to hysterectomy and bilateral adnexectomy for irregular vaginal bleeding related to postmenopausal genital atrophy. Histological examination revealed many sarcoid granulomas located subserosally in the uterus, parametrium, perisalpinx and ovaries. The differential diagnosis is discussed.

Laparoscopic ventrosuspension is simple to perform after diagnostic laparoscopy. Serious postoperative complication is unlikely. However, patient follow-up over 6 months has not confirmed the usefulness of laparoscopic ventrosuspension in the management of deep dyspareunia or pelvic pain in association with a retroverted uterus. The success rate of laparoscopic ventrosuspension at 6 months varies from 18.6% to 46.5%. The prior use of a Hodge pessary does not predict the success of laparoscopic ventrosuspension.

We report a case of posterior wall intramural pregnancy in a 36-year-old primigravida at 6 weeks gestation. Sonographic examination showed a viable intramural pregnancy distorting the contour of the uterus. The pregnancy was terminated by intrafetal injection of potassium chloride followed by intra-amniotic methotrexate injection.

An interesting entity, benign metastasizing leiomyoma, is rare but occurs from a low-grade leiomyoma that most commonly spreads from the uterus.

The prostaglandin E sulprostone was studied in experiments on pregnant rats. It was shown to stimulate the bioelectrical activity of the uterus, by increasing the amplitude and frequency of biological potentials. Sulprostone was found to have abortive and embryotoxic effects which were especially pronounced during placentation. The drug induced a slight teratogenic effect.

Two cases are described where a malformed uterus was the reason for either repeated abortions or premature deliveries resulting in fetal loss. In both cases the removal of the septum during cesarean section resulted in uneventful postoperative courses, and subsequently in successful pregnancies and births of healthy infants to both women.

A case of rare müllerian anomaly, congenital atresia of the cervix in a functional bicornuate uterus, is presented together with a review of the literature in English. The patient in this case took an active role in the decision regarding the nature of the surgical treatment she was to undergo. It is suggested that total hystrectomy with preservation of the ovaries is the treatment of choice.

Cervical preparation with laminaria reduces complications with 2nd trimester dilation and evacuation. During a surgical abortion at 22 weeks, we could not remove laminaria manually or with ring forceps due to laminaria "dumbbelling" [1]. Without pushing laminaria into the uterus, we mechanically dilated the cervix and removed the incarcerated laminaria.

Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome is a rare form of male pseudohermaphroditism, characterized by the presence of the Mullerian duct structures in an otherwise phenotypically as well as genotypically normal male. We report two cases of males with cryptorchidism, and seminoma in the undescended abdominal testis along with Mullerian duct derivatives (uterus and fallopian tube).

A 21-year-old patient with cryptorchidism was found to have a left inguinal mass on physical examination. The patient was operated with a diagnosis of bilateral cryptorchidism and left inguinal hernia. Besides bilateral inguinal undescended testicles, female genital organs like fallopian tubes, uterus and ovary were found on the exploration.

Careful and early surgical intervention allowed preservation of the uterus following ruptured interstitial pregnancies in two women still desirous of pregnancy. One patient had a history of extirpation of the ipsilateral adnexa, the other patient underwent reversal of sterilization isthmo-cornual. The difficulties of early diagnosis, even by ultrasound, are discussed.

An account is given of pregnancy, puerperium, and labour of 49 women of whom the majority had malformations of the uterus varying in extent. Most of these uterine malformations were detected from occurrence of intrapartal complications. Therefore, presence of malformation not yet known should be an assumption, whenever disorders occur right after birth.

Three cases of abruption of a posteriorly inserted fundal placenta are described. This condition is characterized by vaginal bleeding associated with backache, a nontender uterus, and if unrecognized, high fetal mortality. Ultrasonography permits early recognition and definitive diagnosis. Fetal survival is ensured by closely supervised monitoring and early recourse to cesarean section.

The nuclear fraction of a homogenate of anterior pituitary has a marked binding affinity for estradiol but not for other hormonal steroids. Characteristics of the uptake of estradiol by pituitary nuclear fraction are like those reported for the uterus. Study in vitro will be useful in elucidating how direct estrogen feedback control of anterior pituitary function is mediated.
