Ca(2+)-stimulated adenylyl cyclases (AC) are known to play important roles in neurons but have not previously been reported in the heart. Here we present the first evidence for selective expression of Ca(2+)-stimulated AC in the sino-atrial node (SAN) but not in ventricular muscle of the guinea-pig heart. Stab wounds are the main cause of large-vessel injuries in the neck and they have a fairly good prognosis when the patient receives expeditious and appropriate management. The objective of this study is to present the experience of managing patients with large-vessel injuries in the neck. A retrospective study was carried out involving 22 cases with vessel injuries in the neck over the past 10 years. Stab wounds accounted for 77% of this series (17 of 22 patients). Prevention of inhalation anthrax requires early and extended antibiotic therapy, and therefore, alternative treatment strategies are needed. We investigated whether a human monoclonal antibody (AVP-21D9) to protective antigen (PA) would protect mice, guinea pigs, and rabbits against anthrax.
