A patient who had metastasis from a focus of invasive carcinoma confined to the head of an otherwise benign pedunculated adenomatous polyp of the sigmoid colon is described. That only 20 such cases have been reported previously attests to the rarity of this phenomenon. Because the morbidity and mortality of radical surgery far outweigh the liklihood of metastasis from such foci of invasive carcinoma in pedunculated adenomatous colonic polyps, local removal is recommended.

Twenty-eight patients with advanced untreated carcinoma of the cervix had selective pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy and a scalene fat pad biopsy to determine the extent of their disease prior to treatment. In a consectuive series of 734 patients with malignant tumorous of the lung, sarcoid reactions were observed in the mediastinal lymph nodes in 20 cases, i.e. in 3.2% of the 630 patients in whom these nodes were studied. Among these 20 patients, sarcoidosis was suspected in three. In two of these, granulomata were revealed in the tumour. Another two had metastases in the affected lymph nodes. This paper deals with an unusually high incidence, i.e. 0.97 % of carcinoma of the small intestine found in Icelandic sheep. The tumours were situated in the jejunum and upper ileum. The macroscopic and microscopic pathology is described and compared with carcinoma of the small intestine of domestic animals and humans. Aetiological factors are discussed and the possibility of exposure to carcinogenic substances, especially nitrosamines in food concentrates, is suggested. Finally these findings are discussed in relation to current ideas on carcinogenesis in the intestines.

Radical mastectomy is excellent only for cases of operable breast cancer in which the tumor is limited to the breast or to the nodes in the axilla. That there is metastasis to the internal mammary lymph nodes in a high proportion of cases has been "overlooked" for many years. BACKGROUND: The identification of lymph node metastases in colorectal resection specimens is necessary for accurate tumor staging. However, routine lymph node dissection by the pathologist yields only a subset of nodes removed surgically and may not include those nodes most directly in the path of lymphatic drainage from the tumor. Intraoperative mapping of such sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) has been reported in cases of melanoma and breast cancer. We applied a similar method to cases of colorectal carcinoma, with emphasis on the pathology of the SLNs.
