Special Considerations in Chinese Face-Lift Procedure: Insights From a 15-Year Experience of 1026 Cases.

BACKGROUND: There is extensive literature on different face-lift techniques; however, few articles published in the English language address the particularities of the face-lift for Chinese patients. Because of differences in facial anatomy, facial aging, and patient expectations, facial rejuvenation procedures for Chinese patients can be quite different from those of White patients. METHODS: The study includes 1026 consecutive primary face-lift cases performed by the senior author (D.Y.) from 2006 to 2019. Of these, 1010 patients were female and 16 were male. The average age of the patient a

Creating Learning Environments Free of Violence in Special Education Through the Dialogic Model of Prevention and Resolution of Conflicts.

Violence suffered by children is a violation of human rights and a global health problem. Children with disabilities are especially vulnerable to violence in the school environment, which has a negative impact on their well-being and health. Students with disabilities educated in special schools have, in addition, more reduced experiences of interaction that may reduce both their opportunities for learning and for building protective social networks of support. This study analyses the transference of evidence-based actions to prevent violence in schools - the dialogic model of prevention and r

Impact of Interactive Learning Environments on Learning and Cognitive Development of Children With Special Educational Needs: A Literature Review.

Children with special educational needs (SEN) achieve lower educational levels than their peers without special needs, leading to a higher risk of social exclusion in the future. Inclusive education aims to promote learning and to benefit the cognitive development of these students, and numerous research studies have indicated that interactive environments benefit inclusion. However, it is necessary to know how these inclusive environments can positively impact the academic improvement and development of these students' cognitive skills. This article provides a review of the scientific literat

Clinical and demographic characteristics of patients with functional movement disorders: a consecutive cohort study from a specialized clinic.

There is a growing interest in functional movement disorders (FMD). However, epidemiological data from large cohorts of patients with FMD are scarce and come mainly from General Neurology and Movement Disorders Clinics. Recently, specialized FMD clinics have been developed and epidemiological data from such clinics may provide useful information. We aimed to describe the clinical and sociodemographic features of patients diagnosed with FMD at our specialized FMD clinic. A standardized form was used to extract data from electronic records from the first-100 consecutive patients who were evaluat

Marginal cord insertion among singleton births at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Northwest Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Umbilical cord may insert abnormally i.e. marginal insertion to a placenta which can cause different birth and perinatal complications. Despite the increased effort taken by different responsible bodies, the prevalence of birth and perinatal complications are still high, possibly due to anomalous cord insertion. So far, anomalous cord insertion lacks proper attention in different medical settings. Hence, the present study aims to assess the magnitude, risk factors, and adverse birth outcomes of marginal cord insertion among singleton births. METHODS: An institution-based cross-sec

Functionalized Nanoparticles in Prevention and Targeted Therapy of Viral Diseases With Neurotropism Properties, Special Insight on COVID-19.

Neurotropic viruses have neural-invasive and neurovirulent properties to damage the central nervous system (CNS), leading to humans' fatal symptoms. Neurotropic viruses comprise a lot of viruses, such as Zika virus (ZIKV), herpes simplex virus (HSV), rabies virus (RABV), and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Effective therapy is needed to prevent infection by these viruses in vivo and in vitro. However, the blood-brain barrier (BBB) usually prevents macromolecules from entering the CNS, which challenges the usage of the traditional probes, antiviral drugs, or n

Hepatocellular carcinomas can be Special AT-rich sequence-binding protein 2 positive: an important diagnostic pitfall.

Special AT-rich sequence-binding protein 2 (SATB2) is a sensitive and specific marker for tumors originating with the colon and appendix. It is now commonly used in surgical pathology, while working up carcinomas of unknown primary. We had anecdotally encountered occasional hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) that were SATB2 positive. Immunohistochemical expression of SATB2 in HCC has not yet been examined in detail. In this study, we evaluated SATB2 expression in 46 HCCs. Nineteen (41%) of 46 HCCs were positive for SATB2. SATB2 expression in HCCs was more commonly seen in poorly differentiated t

Comparative structural insight into prefoldin subunints of archaea and eukaryotes with special emphasis on unexplored prefoldin of Plasmodium falciparum.

Prefoldin (PFD) is a heterohexameric molecular chaperone which bind unfolded proteins and subsequently deliver them to a group II chaperonin for correct folding. Although there is structural and functional information available for humans and archaea PFDs, their existence and functions in malaria parasite remains uncharacterized. In the present review, we have collected the available information on prefoldin family members of archaea and humans and attempted to analyze unexplored PFD subunits of Plasmodium falciparum (Pf). Our review enhances the understanding of probable functions, structure

Loss of a conserved MAPK causes catastrophic failure in assembly of a specialized cilium-like structure in Toxoplasma gondii.

Primary cilia are important organizing centers that control diverse cellular processes. Apicomplexan parasites like Toxoplasma gondii have a specialized cilium-like structure called the conoid that organizes the secretory and invasion machinery critical for the parasites' lifestyle. The proteins that initiate the biogenesis of this structure are largely unknown. We identified the Toxoplasma orthologue of the conserved kinase ERK7 as essential to conoid assembly. Parasites in which ERK7 has been depleted lose their conoids late during maturation and are immotile and thus unable to invade new ho
