BACKGROUND: Dotinurad is a novel selective urate transporter 1 (URAT1) inhibitor recently introduced in Japan. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of dotinurad in hyperuricemic patients with type 2 diabetic kidney disease by comparing serum levels of urate and plasma and urinary levels of indoxyl sulfate excreted via the urate excretion transporter ATP binding cassette subfamily G member 2 (ABCG2), as indices, with baseline levels after switching from febuxostat to dotinurad in hyperuricemic patients with type 2 diabetic kidney disease (DKD).

BACKGROUND: Canine life stage is a key factor in parasite prevalence as clinical signs associated with parasitism are more common in pups. In adult dogs, health status and geographical region may also play a role in parasite prevalence. The purpose of this study was to evaluate fecal test results using zinc sulfate flotation by centrifugation combined with fecal antigen testing for hookworms (Ancylostoma spp. Uncinaria stenocephala), ascarids (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris spp., Baylisascaris spp.) and whipworms (Trichuris vulpis) sorted by age, geographical region and veterinary visit type.

OBJECTIVES: Interstitial cystitis/Painful bladder syndrome (IC/PBS) is a chronic bladder condition of unknown etiology and pathogenesis. However, there is evidence of bladder surface mucosal and glycosaminoglycans (GAG) dysfunction in IC/PBS and GAG replacement therapy has been used to treat the condition. The results of an open label, uncontrolled study of a dietary supplement designed to improve GAG mucopolysaccharides integrity (glucosamine sulfate, sodium hyaluronate and chondroitin sulfate) and reduce bladder wall inflammation (quercetin, rutin) are presented herein.

We compared substrate reduction in patients with lysosomal storage disorder treated with hematopoietic stem cell transplant and found that it was significantly reduced compared with patients treated with pharmacological enzyme replacement therapy. These data might support the wider application of hematopoietic stem cell transplant in the treatment of lysosomal storage disorders.

We report a patient with the typical lesions of diabetic scleredema. Histological findings of the involved skin were thickening of the dermis, depositions of mucins, and fibrosis. Biochemical analysis revealed an increase in glycosaminoglycans in the involved skin as well as in the cutaneous lupus mucinosis. Mucinous materials were composed of hyaluronic acid.

This study was designed to test the hypothesis that hydrochlorothiazide a diuretic used to treat hypertension depletes body zinc and thereby cause sexual dysfunction. Serum zinc and sexual dysfunction were measured in 39 middle aged hypertensive men who had been taking hydrochlorothiazide in average daily doses of between 25 and 50 mg daily for at least six months, and a control group of 27 unmedicated middle aged normotensive men.
