We present the case of a 67 year-old patient that presented to our institution with acute and severe chest pain. Optical coherence tomography high-resolution images of the coronary lumen, allowed us to confirm diagnosis of spontaneous coronary artery dissection, guide treatment, and verify the results of our intervention.

Vitreomacular traction (VMT) caused visual symptoms in two healthy young adults but spontaneously resolved within four weeks without any sequelae. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fundus photographs proved vital in documenting the rare complete resolution of VMT. It is prudent to monitor for spontaneous resolution of VMT in young healthy adults.

Photoacoustic computed tomography (PACT) synergizes optical absorption contrast with ultrasonic resolution for noninvasive biomedical imaging yet faces limitations in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), resolution, and contrast. This study introduces a coherent-excitation PACT system integrating interferometric optical excitation and Frequency-Compensated Filtered Back Projection (FC-FBP) reconstruction. The proposed method utilizes phase-locked dual-pulse interferometric excitation to amplify photoacoustic emissions; for the isolated chicken heart, the resolution is improved by 7.9% compared to the

Artificial cornea is an effective treatment of corneal blindness. Yet, intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements for glaucoma monitoring remain an urgent unmet need. Here, we present the integration of a fiber-optic Fabry-Perot pressure sensor with an FDA-approved keratoprosthesis for real-time IOP measurements using a novel strategy based on optical-path self-alignment with micromagnets. Additionally, an alternative noncontact sensor-interrogation approach is demonstrated using a bench-top optical coherence tomography system. We show stable pressure readings with low baseline drift (<2.8 mm Hg)

The results of computed tomography (CT) of the orbits and brain of 29 patients with neurofibromatosis were reviewed to determine the contribution of CT scanning to the diagnosis of this disorder. In the presence of orbital symptoms, CT confirmed the presence of suspected lesions such as optic nerve gliomas, demonstrated asymptomatic and atypical lesions, and displayed concomitant intracranial involvement of the optic chiasm. CT of the brain revealed a multiplicity of abnormalities such as astrocytomas, intracerebral calcification, hydrocephalus, and congenital lesions.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: The aim of this study is to evaluate the findings on optical colonoscopy (OC) after a positive CT colonography (CTC) exam and characterize the type of polyps seen on OC but not reported by CTC.
METHODS: Over an 18-month period a total of 159 asymptomatic adults had polyps seen on computed tomography colonography examination and subsequently underwent planned therapeutic optical colonoscopy. The colonoscopists were aware of the findings on CT colonography prior to further evaluation of the colon. Characteristics of polyps and adenomas seen on subsequent optical colonoscopy b

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) frequently presents joint pain and stiffness, yet clinicians lack an objective, rapid method to quantify joint inflammation at the point of care. We introduce the Lupus Optical Tomography Imaging System (LOTIS), a wearable near-infrared (NIR) device that performs real-time three-dimensional tomographic imaging of hemodynamic changes in finger joints. LOTIS was developed to address key limitations of our earlier Flexible Optical Imaging System (FOIS), including mechanical fragility, high noise levels, single-joint acquisition, and slow reconstruction times. PURPOSE: Optic pit is a congenital anomaly with malformation similar to coloboma of the optic disc. The cause of optic pit maculopathy is controversial. We used high resolution OCT to investigate changes in the vitreoretinal and vitreopapillary transition within optic pit eyes.
METHODS: The vitreoretinal and vitreo-papillary transition of 12 eyes was accurately analyzed using SD-OCT. We registered the following criteria: liquefaction of prepapillary vitreous, papillary vitreous traction, discontinuity within the hyaloid cortex and communication spaces between pit and retinal edema.
RESULTS:

A rare case of retrobulbar optic neuropathy caused by an isolated mucocele in an Onodi cell is presented. A 63-year-old man suffering from left recurrent optic neuropathy had shown improved visual acuity with steroid treatment at the age of 48 and 56 years. Impaired visual acuity and blurred vision in the left eye appeared again, and a marked inferior decrease in the left visual field was noted. Although axial computed tomography (CT) showed no abnormal findings, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a small squamous-shaped lesion (17 x 17 x 7.3 mm) in the left posterior ethmoidal air cell

A retrospective clinical study of optic nerve sheath meningiomas based on 22 patients showed that symptoms most commonly develop in women between the ages of 35 and 60 years. The most common presenting symptoms were decreased vision and transient visual obscurations. In the earliest stages, many patients presented with normal to mildly impaired acuity (despite subjectively decreased vision), optic disc edema and enlargement of the blind spot. Optic disc edema was frequently associated with refractile bodies indicative of chronic swelling. Optic disc edema preceded the development of optic atro

PURPOSE: Heavy metals, such as lead can cause optic neuropathy. Optic disc neuropathy due to lead intoxication has previously been reported. We report a rare case of lead toxicity-induced optic neuropathy presenting with bilateral hemorrhagic optic disc swelling.
CASE REPORT: The patient was a 42-year-old man with a history of chronic oral opium use, who had a gradually progressing blurred vision in both eyes over 40 days, with ataxia, paresthesia, and a toxic level of serum lead. He had been treated with lead chelators for lead poisoning. His color vision was impaired in both eyes. Humphrey'

Neuro-ophthalmologic emergencies presenting with acute visual loss pose significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, with potential for irreversible vision loss if not promptly recognized. A comprehensive approach that integrates clinical evaluation with advanced imaging modalities is essential for timely diagnosis, prognostic stratification, and management. Magnetic resonance imaging remains the gold standard for demyelinating optic neuritis, enabling differentiation among multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder, and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associ

Data on how retinal structural and vascular parameters jointly influence the diagnostic performance of detection of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients without optic neuritis (MSNON) are lacking. To investigate the diagnostic performance of structural and vascular changes to detect MSNON from controls, we performed a cross-sectional study of 76 eyes from 51 MS participants and 117 eyes from 71 healthy controls. Retinal macular ganglion cell complex (GCC), retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thicknesses, and capillary densities from the superficial (SCP) and deep capillary plexuses (DCP) were obtaine

PURPOSE: To report a patient with central retinal artery occlusion with double cilioretinal artery sparing.
METHODS: Retrospective case report.
RESULTS: A 45-year-old woman presented with sudden vision loss in her left eye for 10 days. Her best-corrected visual acuity was counting fingers at 2 meters in the left eye and 20/20 in the right eye. Funduscopy showed retinal opacity of posterior fundus, most marked in the macular region, and two small areas of the normal retina; one temporal to the optic disk and the other superior to the optic disk corresponding to the patent cilioretinal retinal

BACKGROUND: Whether surgical nerve decompression is indicated for the treatment of posttraumatic reduced vision with optic nerve compression in the bony canal has been a subject of controversy for decades. On balance, the recent literature suggests that this procedure is indeed indicated, as a supplement to high-dosed cortisone therapy. The risk of surgery-related side effects is usually rated low in the literature.
CASE REPORT: We report on a woman patient in whom craniocerebral trauma involved a fracture of the left optic canal with unilateral loss of vision. In the decompression operation,
