A new method of vaginal removal of submucous fibroids was attempted on 151 patients. The procedure involves dilation of the cervix with Laminaria tents and removal of the submucous fibroid by grasping with appropriate instruments. Myomas were removed successfully in 92% of the patients; hysterectomy and abdominal myomectomy were avoided in all but four of them. Perforation occurred in two patients. Morbidity was minimal. The four patients who desired pregnancy conceived.

At the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Catholic University in Rome 1257 pregnancies with vaginal bleeding in the first or second trimesters were ultrasonically observed. All 11 girls less than 12 years of age presenting to the pediatric clinic between 1980 and 1986 with genital warts were evaluated by the Child Protection Team for possible sexual abuse. Minor vestibular gland syndrome is a specific clinical entity found in young women with a previous history of vaginal candidiasis. The criteria for diagnosis include introital dyspareunia, absence of active infection, erythema around orifices of the minor vestibular glands and exquisite tenderness to point palpation with a cotton-tipped applicator over these glandular openings. This retrospective study evaluated the prospects of having a vaginal delivery following a lower segment Caesarean section in Nehru Hospital; 685 (52%) of 1,315 patients with a previous Caesarean section were given a trial of vaginal delivery with a success rate of 69%. One hundred twenty-four women of reproductive age have used vaginal pills containing 50 micrograms dl-norgestrel and 35 micrograms ethinyl estradiol to prevent conception for periods ranging from 6 to 20 months. One thousand four hundred thirty-eight woman-months were recorded. No pregnancies occurred. Cycle control was good. Bleeding usually lasted 3 to 5 days, and the interval between withdrawal bleeding events was 26 to 30 days in 86% of the cycles. Amenorrhea, breakthrough bleeding, and spotting occurred rarely. The continuation rate at 1 year was 64%.

The clinical and urodynamic effects of anterior colporrhaphy and vaginal hysterectomy were studied in 73 patients, of whom 29 had incontinence due to urethral sphincter incompetence. Pre-and post-operative urodynamic assessment was made and follow-up continued for 2 years. Symptoms of urge incontinence, stress incontinence and prolapse were significantly reduced following surgery. Urodynamic data showed no significant change. The incidence of detrusor instability and voiding difficulties was not increased.
