We report here the sequencing and analysis of the genome of the nitrogen-fixing endophyte, Klebsiella pneumoniae 342. Although K. pneumoniae 342 is a member of the enteric bacteria, it serves as a model for studies of endophytic, plant-bacterial associations due to its efficient colonization of plant tissues (including maize and wheat, two of the most important crops in the world), while maintaining a mutualistic relationship that encompasses supplying organic nitrogen to the host plant. Growth hormone (GH)-releasing activity has been detected in extracts of carcinoid and pancreatic islet tumors from three patients with GH-secreting pituitary tumors and acromegaly. Placement of immediate implants is a routine clinical procedure. However, certain clinical conditions, especially the presence of infected sites, are considered to be contraindications for the immediate implant. Based on clinical experience, it is proposed that if certain preoperative and postoperative steps are carefully followed and meticulous debridement of the alveolus is done during the surgical procedure, immediate implants can be successfully placed into chronically infected sites. The advantages of this procedure are discussed.

We report the results of a systematic survey carried on 8.961 healthy Guadeloupean blood donors, where we looked for hemoglobinopathies. The results are expressed in regard of the race and site of living (urban or rural) of the subjects. Of these 8.961 subjects, aged 18 to 60, 7.75% were sickle cell trait carriers, 2.36% were heterozygous for Hb C and 0,2% had a significant elevation of Hb F. The histologic lesions produced in the brain by stereotactic chemosurgery and cryosurgery are reviewed in four patients who died from 25 days to 15 years postoperatively. Three of four patients had damage to the internal capsule and died of pulmonary emboli. The early lesions are histologically nonspecific, but the old lesions of chemopallidectomy and chemothalamectomy in one patient contained metaplastic bone. Lesions produced by freezing are more discrete than those made by chemical means.

1. Tritiated folic acid (pteroylglutamic acid) was injected into rats whose livers were undergoing regeneration after partial hepatectomy, and into normal control rats. 2. The major form of labelled liver folate was found to be pteroylpentaglutamate in both hepatectomized and normal rats and there was no difference in the proportion of pteroylpentaglutamate to other forms of folate in the regenerating or resting liver. 3. Folate concentrations were also measured in leucocytes from normal and leukaemic patients. 4. Pteroylpolyglutamates constituted the main form of folate in both sets of cells.
