A 10-month-old male infant (case 1) and another male infant aged 1 year and 11 months (case 2) were admitted to our department because of fever, watery diarrhea and convulsion. On admission, they were unconscious and showed rigidity of the limbs. Fifty patients of grade III & IV malnutrition with diarrhoeal dehydration were rehydrated using the WHO recommended ORS. Serum sodium and potassium levels were estimated at admission and 24 hours later. Forty seven patients were successfully rehydrated orally. l-Tetrahydroberberine-d-camphor sulfonate (THB-CS) possessed an inhibitory effect on apomorphine-induced chewing movement in a similar manner to that of tetrahydroberberine (THB). This study reflects the clinical pattern, diagnosis and management of cerebral malaria in 55 consecutive patients from Chittagong Hill Tracts. The predominant clinical features were: impaired consciousness with convulsion in a febrile patient with temporary residence in the endemic zone. This communication reports the clinical features of 92 children with Japanese encephalitis diagnosed on the basis of viral isolation from brain or cerebrospinal fluid and/or a 4-fold or higher rise in antibody titre in paired sera by haemagglutination inhibition (HI) test, followed by detection of specific IgM HI antibody. A prospective study of symptomatic hypoglycaemia was conducted in 47 children over a 14-week period using a questionnaire completed at home for each episode of hypoglycaemia. Twenty-nine children (62%) experienced 150 episodes during the study. The average incidence was once every 33 days (range 0-5.2 mo-1).
