INTRODUCTION: Proximal femur fractures are one of the most common fractures observed in dialysis-dependent patients. Given the large comorbidity burden present in this patient population, more information is needed regarding post-operative outcomes. Frey's syndrome is the occurrence of hyperesthesia, flushing and warmth or sweating over the distribution of the auriculotemporal nerve and/or greater auricular nerve while eating foods that produce a strong salivary stimulus. Frey's syndrome is also known as auriculotemporal syndrome and gustatory sweating. We present a case of Frey's syndrome after a condylar fracture and its treatment by internal rigid fixation. A review of the literature is provided along with mention of a simple test (Minor's test) that can help in the diagnosis of this syndrome.

The main problem with fractures of the femoral neck is the high incidence of avascular necrosis and non-union. While the rate of pseudarthroses has been lowered by treatment with stable compression screws, no effect of this technique on the incidence of head necrosis is evident.
