Successful experimental transmission of the human lymphatic dwelling nocturnal periodic strain of Wuchereria bancrofti has been achieved from man to Indian leaf monkey (Presbytis entellus) through a susceptible strain of Aedes aegypti. The prepatent period varied between 195 and 240 days. Microfilaria (mf) levels were in general low and the peak count was attained at 1800 hr. We present results of some calculations that convert double-strand breaks to dicentrics by means of a repair-misrepair model. The method uses Monte Carlo techniques to determine the positions of the double-strand breaks and to determine the dicentric yields for comparison with those obtained experimentally in human lymphocytes following irradiation in G0. The relationship between oral temperature and serum IgA and IgG antibody responses to Shigella sonnei infection was examined in 65 experimentally infected adult volunteers. Early experimental studies suggested that doses of 1 to 5 mg of praziquantel (PZQ) per kg are effective against several intestinal cestodiases. The usually recommended single dose of PZQ in human taeniasis is 5 or 10 mg/kg. A study in T. saginata taeniasis showed a full efficacy at a dose of 2.5 mg/kg. A field study confirmed that a dose between 3.4 and 7.5 mg/kg was effective in expulsion T. solium tapeworms in man. A dose of 2.5 mg of PZQ per kg would be safer and more economical in population-oriented interventions aiming at control of T. solium taeniasis in man.
