In a series of 18 patients with atrial myxoma (16 left, 2 right) the tumors were consistently identified by right ventriculography and generally visualized by left ventriculography in patients with left atrial myxoma examined owing to concomitant mitral insufficiency caused by tumor invasion at the site of mitral valve closure. We report 5 confirmed cases of boutonneuse fever. All patients presented fever with a generalised maculopapular rash, and the tache noire at the site of the tick bite. Trimethoprim sulfamethoxazole failed to cure one patient. Treatment with oral oxytetracycline was effective in all cases.

The natural history of a moderate intoxication with botulin (probably type B) in six patients is presented and discussed. All patients complained of a persistent and almost complete failure of accommodation, and marked dryness of the mouth. Reduced lacrimation was also noticeable. Septo-optic pituitary dysplasia is a relatively rare but pathophysiologically interesting malformation of the brain midline structures including optic chiasm and nerves, hypothalamus, neurohypophysis and septum pellucidum. Plasma lipids and red cell lipids were determined in hereditary spherocytosis (HS), 15 unsplenectomized and eight splenectomized patients. Plasma lipids (cholesterol: total, free and high density lipoproteins, free fatty acids, and phospholipids) were markedly decreased in HS, especially in the unsplenectomized patients. A topically applied rubifacient delivered by aerosol (Deep-Heat) was studied. After spray application to the forearms of volunteers, without massage, the erythema produced was measured by thermography and correlated with the concentration of 2 salicylate components of the mixture found in local and systemic venous blood. It is possible both to accurately measure foetal size and visualize the yolk sac and the amniotic membrane by ultrasound scanning in the first trimester of pregnancy. In threatened abortion an intrauterine haematoma or a foetal size smaller than normal are ominous signs. Fifteen patients with toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) were studied. In all of them the TEN was related to drug ingestion and believed to be drug-induced. The drugs implicated include pyrazolone derivatives, allopurinol, barbiturates, tetracycline, phenytoin, and penicillamine. Possible etiologic co-factors are infections, cancer, and the systemic lupus erythematosus diathesis. The extent of skin loss varied from 25% to almost 100% involvement of the total body surface. This follow-up study is of the same patients we studied in 1976. Then we thought the results were unsatisfactory in 20.9% of the ears treated with ventilating tubes. The hearing losses varied from 25 to 60 dB and chronic otitis media developed in 7.7% of the cases. We think the results of treatment with ventilating tubes in chronic serous otitis media are not good enough. This study shows that there has been an increase in the number of patients with permanent hearing loss and chronic otitis media than in the first study.

Biopsy material from two cases of histologically proven malignant choroid plexus papilloma was studied by electron microscopy.
