Stepping into day treatment approach versus inpatient treatment for adults with anorexia nervosa: the DAISIES RCT.

BACKGROUND: A substantial proportion of anorexia nervosa patients require intensive treatments, commonly inpatient or day-patient treatment. The relative merits of these treatments for adults with anorexia nervosa are unknown. Therefore, a trial investigating the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of inpatient treatment-as-usual versus a stepped-care day-patient approach in adults with anorexia nervosa (DAISIES) was commissioned. This trial terminated prematurely due to poor recruitment, mainly resulting from COVID-19's impact on service provision. OBJECTIVE: We describe the ration

Evidence-based summary of optimal home self-management for elderly ostomy patients.

BACKGROUND: Given the aging population and increasing incidence of severe intestinal diseases, elderly ostomy patients face home self-management challenges with insufficient care capacity, and the lack of systematically integrated evidence for their specific needs necessitates summarizing the best evidence to support clinical care and improve their quality of life. METHODS: A computerized literature search was systematically performed to identify studies focusing on home stoma self-management among elderly ostomy patients. The search was conducted across multiple sources, including domestic a

Caregiver perceptions of the impact and effect of family conferences for patients with complex and high-level palliative care needs: a cross-sectional survey study.

INTRODUCTION: Family conferences (FC) are a structured and therapeutic tool in palliative care, promoting effective communication between the healthcare team, patient and family. They are especially relevant for patients with high clinical complexity, both in hospital settings and in primary care. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate caregivers' perceptions of the impact of FC on patients cared for by palliative care teams and/or primary healthcare clinicians (PHC). This included measuring quality of care, communication effectiveness, interprofessional collaboration, successful implementation of care strat

Primary osteoarthritis of the sternoclavicular joint: surgical management using the sternal docking technique.

BACKGROUND: Dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) is the most common SCJ condition reported to be managed surgically. However, primary SCJ osteoarthritis (OA) is substantially more common. There are few reports in the literature on the outcome of surgical management of primary SCJ OA. We have successfully adopted sternal docking allograft reconstruction for SCJ instability and have now expanded the technique to patients with primary SCJ OA. This is our first report on the outcome of the sternal docking technique specifically for patients with primary SCJ OA. METHODS: Between 2012 an

Latent profiles of kinesiophobia and associated factors in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) frequently experience kinesiophobia, driven by concerns that movement may worsen pain or cause joint damage. This fear can reduce physical activity and adversely affect functional outcomes. Conventional approaches that classify patients solely based on overall kinesiophobia scores may fail to capture important differences in symptom presentation and behavioral responses. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify distinct latent profiles of kinesiophobia among patients with RA using the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia-11 (TSK-11) and to compare su

Medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy demonstrates an 85.9% non-conversion rate and 76.8% patient satisfaction at a minimum follow-up of 10 years.

PURPOSE: To evaluate long-term survival and functional outcomes following medial open wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) using a locking plate. METHODS: One hundred fifty-four patients underwent MOWHTO for isolated medial compartment osteoarthritis at Martin Luther Hospital, Berlin, Germany. After application of the predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, 26 patients were excluded, leaving 126 eligible patients. Of these, two patients had died, and 18 were lost to follow-up. The primary endpoint was survival, defined as the absence of conversion to total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Second

Navigating Concurrent Diagnoses With Cancer and Mental Health Disorder: Patients' Perspectives on Personalised Treatment and Care.

BACKGROUND: People living with concurrent cancer and mental health disorders face heightened vulnerability within healthcare systems that are predominantly organised around biomedical treatment pathways. Although cancer care has advanced substantially, less is known about how these patients experience recognition of their psychological vulnerability, continuity of care, communication and opportunities to participate meaningfully in decisions about treatment. AIM: To explore patients' experiences of living with concurrent cancer and mental health disorders, with particular focus on how they ex

Rare and fatal late-term complication of endovascular aneurysm repair: Migration of the endograft into the duodenum.

Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is a treatment method that has become increasingly popular for abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) due to its ease of application, reduced hospital stay, and its suitability as an alternative for patients who cannot tolerate open surgery. Although the early outcomes of EVAR are better than those of open surgery, complications such as endoleak, migration, thrombosis or kinking of the endograft limbs, graft infection, and secondary rupture may occur. In this study, we present a patient who underwent EVAR at another institution approximately 10 years earlier and w

State-of-Art on Multidisciplinary Approaches to Meningioma: A Systematic Review of the Available Evidence.

BACKGROUND: Meningiomas are the most common primary intracranial tumors, often requiring complex management due to their proximity to critical neurovascular and orbital structures. While surgery remains the cornerstone of treatment, achieving optimal outcomes requires coordinated efforts to balance tumor control with functional preservation. Multidisciplinary approaches have emerged as a strategy to enhance decision-making, integrate diverse expertise, and improve patient care. This study aims to synthesize the evidence and state-of-the-art knowledge on the multidisciplinary approach to mening

[Patient- and donor-dependent factors in descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty and their impact on visual acuity and quality of life].

BACKGROUND: Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) is the gold standard for the treatment of endothelial corneal decompensation. The rapid postoperative improvement in visual acuity and the lower rejection rate of this minimally invasive procedure compared to penetrating keratoplasty justify the high acceptance of DMEK. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to analyse the general conditions for an optimal visual outcome after DMEK by recording patient- and graft-dependent factors. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: A total of 72 eyes were retrospectively analysed in which Fuchs' endothelial

Complications of total laparoscopic hysterectomy: with vs. without a uterine manipulator.

BACKGROUND: Uterine manipulators may decrease the incidence of complications associated with total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH), but contrary views exist regarding the use of uterine manipulators for TLH. There are insufficient data on the safety of TLH without a uterine manipulator in both benign and malignant cases. Data on the safety and outcomes of TLH performed without a uterine manipulator remain limited. While some studies have investigated this issue, direct comparisons between TLH with and without the use of a manipulator, particularly across both benign and malignant indications,
