We report an autopsy case of a pedestrian victim of car traffic accident with the chin-sternum-heart syndrome type of injury. A drunken man who lay on the road was run over by a car. He died immediately at the scene. OBJECTIVE: To improve the surgical procedure to correct pectus carinatum.
METHODS: From 1990 to 2003, 9 patients with pectus carinatum were treated, whose ages ranged from 3 years and 6 months to 16 years. The purpose of our paper is to call attention to acquired restrictive thoracic dystrophy (ARTD), an iatrogenic disease. The condition may occur following correction of pectus excavatum in young patients and is characterized by a reduced and restricted rib cage, usually with some recurrence of the deformity. Of 42 patients with resolving infantile idiopathic scoliosis, 34 were followed up for more than 25 years. Twenty had been primarily treated in a plaster bed and 14 by physiotherapy. Autogenous bone and cartilage grafts provide the optimal material to be used in reconstruction of the skeleton. If there were an adequate supply of autogenous bone grafts of ideal size and shape, there would be no need for allograft or endoprosthetic replacements.
