BACKGROUND: This study was designed to assess oral ulcerative mucositis, C-reactive protein, blood pressure, heart rate and thyroid function in breast cancer patients in relation to the occurrence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Irritation of the mucosa of the aerodigestive tract is a well-known adverse effect of alendronate, whereas oral ulceration has been reported in only 14 articles in both the English and non-English literature. All of these have been associated with misuse of the drug. We here present the first case of severe oral ulceration attributable to use of alendronate without inappropriate therapeutic administration of the medication.

GOAL: The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to describe children's and their parents' lived experiences of oral mucositis (OM) and to explore their needs in relation to OM.

We report six cases of recrudescent intraoral herpes simplex infection clinically indistinguishable from primary herpetic gingivostomatitis. All infections occurred in healthy children or young adults. Serological analysis demonstrated herpes simplex virus (HSV)-specific IgG at initial presentation, indicating that the infection was not a primary infection. An extensive examination of the tongue was performed at autopsy in 20 consecutive patients who had died with AIDS. Abnormalities in the tongue were detected in 18 (90%) of the cases; the commonest lesions were ulceration (11), candidosis (8) and small foci of hyperkeratosis (10).
