A rare variant of ureteric ectopia, i.e. an opening in the vagina and a vesico-uretero-vaginal communication, is herein reported. This type of congenital anomaly, found in 2 females, has not been reported before. One patient had a free, 2-way communication between the bladder and the vagina via the lower segment of the right ectopic ureter. The other was found to have a one-way communication from the vagina to the bladder through the ectopic distal ureter. Surgical intervention was undertaken in both cases. An analysis was made of primary afferent and dorsal horn neuron responses to stimulation of genitalia of female cats. Three types of primary afferents responded to vaginal probing. The most common type responded maximally to the on- and off-ramps of non-noxious pressure applied directly to the clitoris. A second type responded similar but to surrounding labia mucosa. Reported are 32 cases of surgical correction of congenital atrophy of the vagina in concomitance with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster syndrome. In patients with pelvic floor relaxation and concomitant pelvic pathology indicating the abdominal approach the so-called "combined" operation is not a satisfactory technique. During the course of the total abdominal hysterectomy the cystocele can well be repaired by mobilizing the bladder and excising the relaxed vaginal mucosa. Eight cases of microglandular hyperplasia arising in vaginal adenosis are presented. Five of the patients were known to have taken oral contraceptives and a sixth was pregnant at the time the lesion was discovered; a history of prenatal exposure to diethylstilbestrol (DES) was present in 5 cases. It is important to differentiate microglandular hyperplasia, which is benign, from clear cell adenocarcinoma, which also arises in a background of vaginal adenosis.

Vaginal schwabs of 142 pregnant women in different stages of pregnancy have been studied. 45 women who weren't pregnant and had no signs of vaginal infections, were the control group of the study. A higher incidence of "Streptococcus agalactiae" in vaginal schwabs of women who weren't pregnant (15.5%), as compared to the pregnant women (7.1%) was observed. A lower incidence of "Streptococcus agalactiae" was found in the last three months of pregnancy (1.8%) which is in direct relation to the low number of neonatal sepsis caused by "Steptococcus agalactiae" found in our country.

The present study was undertaken to examine whether leucocytic infiltration of the vagina of the rat at metoestrus is dependent on its contamination by micro-organisms. Twenty patients with either missed abortions or intrauterine fetal death were induced with prostaglandin (PGE2) vaginal suppositories. The uterus is surprisingly responsive to PGE2 in cases of intrauterine death, yielding a short treatment-delivery interval. Blood coagulopathies which can develop after intrauterine death can be avoided through early diagnosis and treatment. Eighteen patients completely delivered and there were no serious complications.
