Feasibility of Schema Therapy for Recurrent Depression in a Disaster Relief Worker with Prior Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Treatment Using Prolonged Exposure Therapy.

This report presents the follow-up treatment course of a previously published case that demonstrated the effectiveness of prolonged exposure (PE) therapy for a disaster relief worker. The patient, a municipal employee in Fukushima Prefecture, developed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and mood disorders after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and subsequent disasters. This follow-up focuses on the period from 2021 to early 2024, during which the patient experienced symptom recurrence after his father's death. This event revealed psychological patterns similar to his disaster-related re

The Clinical Efficacy of Accelerated Deep Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in Depression and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: Multi-centric Real-World Observational Data.

Background Of late, the interest in accelerated treatment protocols in repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for the treatment of depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has been gaining momentum. Studies have already found that the patterned theta burst stimulation is non-inferior to the standard high-frequency stimulation in treating depression. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of a customized accelerated combination TMS naturalistic setting. Methods Retrospective analysis of pre and post-deep repetitive TMS responses in depress

Gender identity and symptoms of anxiety and depression and their relationship with sleep disorders among Polish adolescents during the Covid-19 pandemic and the outbreak of war in the Ukraine.

INTRODUCTION: For most people, gender identity is consistent with biological sex and such people are called cisgender. People in whom such a relationship does not occur or occurs to a lesser extent are referred to as gender non-conforming-and these include transgender, non-binary, agender and gender-fluid people. These individuals are usually affected by minority stress, which, combined with the circumstances of the pandemic and Russian aggression against Ukraine, may have led to mental disorders and sleep disorders in this population. The aim of the study was to analyze the symptoms of anxiet

Electroconvulsive Therapy in a Severely Depressed, Bipolar I Disorder Patient, Who Is a 3-Time Liver Transplant Recipient Due to Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis.

Patients with bipolar I disorder who develop major depressive episodes with psychotic features and suicide ideations following severe episodes of mania can be difficult to treat with medications alone. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a treatment modality that can be quite helpful to these patients and lead to remission of depressive symptoms also while providing protection against mania. However the literature about using ECT in medically complex patients is sparse, which can limit guidance and knowledge on the specific risks of the procedure in specialized patient populations. We report in

Maternal SSRI use during pregnancy and offspring depression or anxiety disorders: A review of the literature and description of a study protocol for a register-based cohort study.

Previous studies examining the relationship between in utero exposure to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) and long-term offspring depressive or anxiety behaviors are inconclusive. We aimed to critically review the findings of previous studies and describe a new study protocol to investigate the association of prenatal SSRI exposure and offspring depression or anxiety using data from several Finnish national registers. The study includes 1,266,473 mothers and their live-born singleton offspring, born in 1996-2018. The study cohorts include the prenatally SSRI exposed group and thr

Prevalence of stressful life events and associations with symptoms of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder among people entering care for HIV in Cameroon.

BACKGROUND: Exposure to stressors increases the risk of mental health disorders. People living with HIV (PLWH) are particularly affected by poor mental health which can contribute to adverse HIV treatment outcomes. METHODS: We estimated the prevalence of recent stressful life events (modified Life Events Survey) among a cohort of PLWH entering HIV care at three public health care facilities in Cameroon and quantified the association of seven types of stressful life events with symptoms of depression (Patient Health Questionnaire-9 scores>9), anxiety (General Anxiety Disorder-7 scores>9), and

Neural correlates of affective control regions induced by common therapeutic strategies in major depressive disorders: An activation likelihood estimation meta-analysis study.

In major depressive disorder (MDD), not only the pathophysiology of this disease is unknown but also the mechanisms of clinical efficacy across its therapeutic strategies are unclear. Although neuroimaging studies adopted activation likelihood estimation (ALE) approach to identify the convergent abnormalities of human brain in the MDD patients, the common alterations after antidepressant therapies were not summarized. Thus, we extracted the coordinates of brain regions in the MDD patients that showed differences in resting-state function, gray matter morphometry, and task-evoked neuronal respo…

Cango Lyec (Healing the Elephant): Probable post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression in Northern Uganda five years after a violent conflict.

BACKGROUND: From 1986 to 2006, Northern Uganda experienced an atrocious civil war between the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) and the Ugandan government. Acholi people living in the region continue to be impacted by trauma sequelae of the war and a wide range of daily stressors including poverty, hunger, and high rates of HIV infection. To date, there is a dearth of gender-differentiated mental health research in this post-conflict setting. The current study aimed to estimate the prevalence of probable post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression in three districts most affected by the No
