Fractures of the lateral clavicle have different biomechanical conditions compared with fractures of the medial and central third; they therefore demand different therapy. Some 237 patients with fractures of the clavicle were followed, of which 75 (33%) were located in the lateral third of the clavicle. At the 5-year follow-up after exclusively conservative treatment, good results were found for Neer types I and III and 3 Jäger/Breitner type IIb fractures, while 4 out of 13 Jäger/Breitner type II a fractures ended in pseudarthroses (31%). Conservative treatment is recommended for Neer types I

Leg fractures are common and further increasing in prevalence in paediatric patients. The diagnosis is readily made in most cases. Choosing the best treatment is the main issue. Non-operative treatment is the reference standard for non-displaced or reducible and stable fractures but requires considerable expertise and close monitoring, as well as an immobilisation period that far exceeds 3 months in many cases. Some surgical teams therefore offer elastic stable intra-medullary nailing (ESIN) as an alternative to children who do not want to be immobilised for several months. Internal fixation i

Periprosthetic fractures are a central topic in orthopedic and trauma surgery. With increasing numbers of joint replacements and an aging, active population, a continuous rise in these injuries is expected. A key factor is the assessment of implant stability, which determines whether conservative treatment, osteosynthesis, or complex revision arthroplasty is indicated. The article addresses total knee and total hip arthroplasties.

Lisfranc injuries classically result from high-energy trauma, such as motor vehicle accidents or falls from height. However, Lisfranc injuries as a result of low-energy mechanisms are increasingly recognised, especially in the context of sports activities or minor traumas. This case report presents a low-energy Lisfranc injury in a patient with a bipartite medial cuneiform, a rare congenital anomaly that can complicate the diagnosis of foot injuries. Emphasising the importance of recognising congenital foot anomalies in the management of foot trauma, we discuss the diagnostic challenges, treat

BACKGROUND: Recently, advances in machine learning models have allowed for automatic and highly accurate detection of fractures. To date, however, no machine learning models have been developed for the automatic selection of treatment strategies for femoral neck fractures. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the performance of a machine learning model that would recommend either internal fixation or implant replacement for the surgical treatment of femoral neck fractures.
METHODS: We constructed a dataset comprising 535 preoperative anteroposterior hip radiographs obtained from 297 patie

» Distal clavicle fractures are less common, accounting for 10% to 30% of all clavicle fractures. » The presence of radiographic nonunion does not correlate with symptomatic nonunion, with a variable percentage of patients necessitating subsequent surgical intervention (20%). » Fracture displacement is associated with a higher risk of nonunion (31%-37%), particularly in Neer type II and V fracture patterns. » Nondisplaced distal clavicle fractures can be treated with nonoperative management (Neer types I, III, and IV). » Surgical treatment is indicated for displaced Neer type II and V fracture

BACKGROUND: Distal supracondylar femur fractures are common orthopaedic injuries in cats, requiring stable fixation for optimal healing. Traditional fixation methods have limitations, leading to the exploration of alternative techniques. The EFECE system, a novel fracture fixation method, aims to provide effective stabilization while minimizing complications.
OBJECTIVES: This study evaluates the clinical and radiological outcomes of distal supracondylar femur fracture treatment in cats using the EFECE system.
METHODS: Eight cats diagnosed with distal supracondylar femur fractures were includ

CASE: A 32-year-old man sustained a rare and complex injury pattern representing an anterior glenohumeral fracture dislocation with critical intra-articular glenoid bone loss, and a double disruption of the superior shoulder suspensory complex (acromion + coracoid fractures), following a fall. To restore joint stability, surgical reconstruction of the glenoid fossa was performed, while fixation of the acromion and coracoid fractures was necessary to re-establish superior shoulder suspensory complex integrity.
CONCLUSION: Achieving structural stability facilitated fracture healing and rehabili

BACKGROUND: Cases of scapular fractures with fragments displacing into the thoracic cavity via intercostal spaces are exceedingly rare in clinical practice. According to the literature, there have been no prior reports of distal lateral margin fractures of the scapula that displace into the thoracic cavity.
CASE PRESENTATION: We reported a case of a patient who presented with right shoulder pain and limited mobility after a fall. Examination revealed fractures of the medial and lateral margins of the right scapula, with the distal end of the lateral margin having detached from the inferior an

The treatment of unstable pelvic fractures is a great challenge for surgeons. Traditional steel plate fixation and sacroiliac screw fixation are not sufficient to provide longitudinal support. At present, surgical lumbar‒iliac fixation is a reliable fixation technique. However, conventional lumbar‒iliac fixation surgery often involves the use of a posterior approach for surgery, which cannot observe fracture displacement and has the risk of poor surgical incision healing. In many cases, such unstable pelvic fractures also involve the fixation of iliac or pubic fractures. Under these circumstan

BACKGROUND: Lateral locking plate (LLP) is a successful standard treatment for Danis-Weber B distal fibula fractures. However, its uniplanar nature can be a limitation when insufficient bone is available at the distal fragment for secure screw fixation, particularly in low or osteoporotic fractures. This study evaluated the biomechanical performance of a novel biplanar double mini-locking plate (DMLP) system designed to address this challenge. METHODS: Twenty left fibula Sawbones models were used to simulate Danis-Weber B fractures. The samples were divided into two groups, Group A (DMLP) and

This study is a biomechanical cadaveric investigation to assess bone healing by measuring frequency changes using a new plate design called bone union detection with wire’s natural frequency (BUDWF). Based on natural frequency and strain theory, in bone fracture conditions, the plate experiences higher strain under axial load and generates higher frequency, compared to the bone union condition where strain is lower and frequency is lower. If frequency changes can be detected, they can be used to determine the bone healing status. Eight human cadaveric tibia bones were used in the experiment. B

CASE: We present a proximal femoral central physeal bar secondary to femoral neck fracture management, in a 3-year-old boy. He presented with progressive femoral neck deformity and limb length discrepancy. He was managed with a novel technique of bar resection by drilling and polymethylmethacrylate interposition. After 5 years of follow-up, the hip score by Ratliff criteria was good.
CONCLUSION: Screw penetration across physis during management of femoral neck fracture can cause growth arrest in a young child. Our technique is useful when physeal bar is central and linear. It can allow suffic
