A Gap in Knowledge: Patient Perspectives and Barriers to Sunscreen Use After Burn Injury.

Burned skin remains highly sensitive to UV radiation for years after injury, increasing the risk of damage, pigmentary changes, and carcinogenesis. Although sun protection is crucial, many burn survivors are unsure of necessary measures or how to incorporate them into daily life. This study evaluated survivors' knowledge and use of sun protection to inform future educational efforts. A cross-sectional survey was conducted at a Level 1 American Burn Association (ABA)-verified burn center from June to September 2025. Adult burn patients attending outpatient clinic visits completed a 7-item surve

Knowledge of lactose intolerance in Italian adults: a cross‑sectional assessment.

PURPOSE: To assess knowledge of lactose intolerance (LI) in Italian adults, identifying major knowledge gaps and factors associated with awareness. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted between December 2024 and March 2025 among Italian adults (≥ 18 years). A newly developed 39-item online survey assessed knowledge of LI across four modules (definition, symptoms, diagnosis, and management). The knowledge score (range: - 39; +39) was calculated and participants were classified into three knowledge levels based on the tertile distribution of scores: "low knowledge", "intermediate knowl

Mothers' home management practices during febrile seizures in children under six years of age in Jordan.

BACKGROUND: Febrile seizure is the most prevalent seizure disorder among young children, and it commonly occurs in the home setting, where mothers are often the first responders. First-aid management of febrile seizures is also important to avoid complications and help parents feel less anxious. Nevertheless, there is a paucity of evidence describing the home-management practices of mothers in Jordan. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to describe the home-management practices of mothers of children under six years of age with febrile seizures in Jordan and to determine factors associat

Ovarian function suppression decision-making and uptake in premenopausal women with breast cancer: a mixed methods analysis.

PURPOSE: Ovarian function suppression (OFS) reduces the risk of recurrence of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer but increases the likelihood of toxicity and nonpersistence with endocrine therapy. In addition, rates of OFS utilization are lower than expected. To increase understanding of these issues, we sought to identify patient factors associated with the use of OFS injections, as well as treatment decision-making and education needs. METHODS: In this convergent mixed methods designed study, patients receiving OFS, who started then discontinued OFS injections, and who never initiated

Awareness, attitudes, and control measures regarding malaria and mosquitoes in the North Region of Cameroon.

Malaria remains a significant public health burden in Cameroon, with high prevalence in the North Region. The success of control strategies depends on community understanding and practices. This study assessed the knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards malaria and mosquitoes in the region. A community-based cross-sectional survey was conducted in 2021 using structured questionnaires with 500 households across 50 randomly selected villages. Descriptive statistics were used for analysis. Malaria awareness was universal (100%), nearly all respondents (99.6%) correctly identified mosquito bit

Barriers to Canine Rabies Vaccination in Nigeria: Implications for Rabies Elimination by 2030.

INTRODUCTION: Mass dog rabies vaccination is the most effective strategy for preventing human rabies and interrupting transmission. However, achieving high vaccination coverage in dog populations remains challenging in many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), due to multiple barriers. In Nigeria, Africa's most populous country, rabies remains a major public health burden, with domestic dogs as the primary reservoir. Efforts to scale up canine rabies vaccination are limited by the lack of a coordinated national programme and challenges related to affordability, service availability, infra

Gender disparities in comprehensive knowledge of HIV among adolescents and young adults in Ethiopia: A decomposition analysis.

Female adolescents and young adults (AYAs) aged 15-24 bear up to a threefold higher burden of HIV and face nearly twice the susceptibility to infection compared with males of the same age group. A comprehensive knowledge of HIV is critical for effective prevention of the virus. However, substantial gender disparities persist in HIV knowledge. This study assessed male and female differences in comprehensive HIV knowledge among AYAs in Ethiopia and identify key drivers of these disparities. This study used a cross-sectional design with secondary data analysis of the 2016 Ethiopian Demographic an

The theoretical understanding of risk perception and dual-method contraceptive decision-making among Texas adolescent and young adult cisgender females.

In this paper we use a constructivist grounded theory approach to conduct individual, qualitative interviews with a racially and ethnically diverse group of adolescent and young adult cisgender females (AYACF) (18-24 years of age) to generate theoretical knowledge of the relationship between Social Determinants of Health (SDOH), STI and HIV risk perception, and dual-method contraceptive decision-making (the use of, both, a prescribed contraceptive [commonly referred to as "birth control"] and a condom during vaginal intercourse). Twenty-five AYACF were selected through theoretical sampling. Da

Unveiling Sociocultural Barriers to Breast Cancer Awareness Among the South Asian Population: Case Study of Bangladesh and West Bengal, India.

BACKGROUND: Bangladesh and West Bengal, India, are 2 densely populated South Asian neighboring regions with many socioeconomic and cultural similarities. In dealing with breast cancer (BC)-related issues, statistics show that people from these regions are having similar problems and fates. According to the Global Cancer Statistics 2020 and 2012 reports, for BC (particularly female BC), the age-standardized incidence rate is approximately 22 to 25 per 100,000 people, and the age-standardized mortality rate is approximately 11 to 13 per 100,000 for these areas. In Bangladesh, approximately 90% o
