BACKGROUND: The McKittrick-Wheelock syndrome is a rare depletion syndrome caused by a secretory villous adenoma or a carcinoma of the rectosigmoid tract. An aggressive hydroelectrolyte rebalancing is often needed, and curative treatment is obtained only with complete removal of the lesion, by endoscopy or surgery. Crizotinib is a multitarget tyrosine kinase inhibitor and it represents the standard of care in patients with anaplastic lymphoma kinase translocated non-small-cell lung cancer. We report a child in whom multiple cardiac rhabdomyomas were identified on routine fetal ultrasonography. Molecular genetic studies identified the TSC2 gene missense mutation (E36; 4672 G>A, 1558 E>K TSC2). Both general and neurodevelopment of the patient have been normal. Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is an autosomal-dominant phakomatosis that can result in cardiac and central nervous system lesions and may adversely impact fetal and maternal health. We report a case of a 19-year-old primagravida with TSC whose pregnancy was complicated by preeclampsia, preterm labor, and fetal demise.
