Isolated dislocations of the proximal tibiofibular joint are a rare condition. Missed diagnosis can lead to chronic knee pain and disability. Early recognition should be followed by immediate closed reduction or open reduction and joint transfixation. We present a young athlete with this injury which was treated successfully by open reduction.

PURPOSE: Meniscus preservation is key in knee surgery. The newly documented crevice sign indicates instability of the medial meniscus in ACL-deficient knees. Once the sign is visualised, it is imperative that the stability of the medial meniscus is assessed and potentially treated. It was hypothesized that there would be a strong correlation between the presence of an unstable medial meniscal tear in patients with the crevice sign in ACL-deficient knees.
METHODS: This was a multicenter prospective study carried out to evaluate the incidence of medial meniscal tears in patients with ACL-defici

The aim of this study was to measure the inter- and intraobserver variations as well as integrality of the Zwipp, Crosby-Fitzgibbons, Sanders, and Eastwood-Atkins classification systems based on more accurate CT scans. Five hundred and forty-nine patients with intra-articular calcaneal fractures from January 2018 to December 2019 taken from a database in our level-I trauma center (3 affiliated hospitals) were included. For each case, normative CT (1 mm slices) scans were available. Four different observers reviewed all CT scans 2 times according to these 4 most prevalent fracture classificatio

MR imaging is the preferred imaging modality for evaluating the meniscus. Overall, when strict criteria are followed, it is accurate in diagnosing meniscal tears in patients who have not had prior meniscal surgery. However, an accurate interpretation requires a through knowledge of the normal meniscal anatomy, common meniscal variants, and common diagnostic pitfalls. In this article, the author emphasizes the importance of describing meniscal tears properly and discusses treatment options. Diagnosing a recurrent tear is more complicated in patients who have had prior partial meniscal resection

Between 1985 and 1995, 45 patients underwent closed meniscus repair. There were 30 men and 15 women with a mean age of 32.5 years. In 23 patients, the anterior cruciate ligament was intact (group 1) whereas it was deficient in 22 patients (group 2). All patients were managed with the same postoperative program of partial weight bearing, immediate motion and rehabilitation of the knee. Five patients had a failed meniscal repair and underwent a repeat arthroscopy and a partial meniscectomy. These patients were considered as failures and excluded from the final scoring. After a mean follow-up of

The functional results in 125 patients treated by arthroscopic meniscectomy were reviewed two to four years after operation. Arthrotomy was necessary to complete the procedure in 15 cases and done at the same session. The other 110 cases were evaluated in a follow-up questionnaire study, which included a knee function rating system. The postoperative rehabilitation period was very short, with the majority of patients returning to work within two weeks. Most athletic patients returned to their preinjury level within four weeks. The best functional results were obtained in cases with an isolated

BACKGROUND: Medial meniscal (MM) lesions (MMLs) are a common finding at the time of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). It is recognized that evaluation of the posteromedial compartment reduces the rate of missed MML diagnoses.
PURPOSE: To determine the incidence of MMLs in patients undergoing ACLR, when using a standardized arthroscopic approach that included posteromedial compartment evaluation, as well as to determine how the incidence of MMLs changed with increasing time intervals between injury and surgery, and to investigate what risk factors were associated with their pre

INTRODUCTION: Fracture clinics are experiencing increased referrals and decreased capacity. Virtual fracture clinics (VFC) are an efficient, safe, and cost-effective solution for specified injury presentations. There is currently a lack of evidence to support the use of a VFC model in the management of 5th metatarsal base fractures. This study aims to assess clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction with the management of 5th metatarsal base fractures in VFC. We hypothesise that it is both safe and cost effectiveness.
METHODS: Patients presenting to VFC at our major trauma centre with a 5th

The management of articular fracture is always a matter of concern. While each articular fracture is different from one another, besides the classification system used and the surgical or non-surgical indication given by the specialist, main goals remain the same: anatomical reduction, stable fixation, loose body removal, and minimal invasiveness. Open procedures are the actual compromise, but unfortunately, it is not always possible to perfectly meet every treatment goal, associated lesions could pass unnoticed or delayed in treatment, and even in a best-case scenario, there could be several

A diverse set of conditions affect the lower extremities in athletes. Good history taking and knowledge of the anatomy of the affected areas can aid in accurate diagnosis. Most conditions can be treated conservatively with great success. Familiarity with rehabilitation strategies can assist physicians in working with physical therapists. New advances, especially in the therapy of plantar fasciitis, may aid physicians in more rapid treatment of conditions of overuse. Surgery can provide definitive relief from symptoms for athletes with whom conservative measures have failed.

Figure skaters are often young athletes involved in an extremely stressful, structured environment that is focused solely on skating. These athletes are at risk for a multitude of psychologic concerns, including poor communication skills, performance anxiety, stress, and family issues. Helping athletes develop self-awareness, techniques to control stress and anxiety, motivational strategies, ability to maintain concentration, and emotional balance is best done with the guidance of a sports-trained counseling professional. Communication among the athlete, parents, and coaches is extremely impor

Approximately 50% of all sports participants will be injured at some point, and at least half of these injuries will be attributed to overuse. This article provides an in-depth review of the presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of the most common overuse injuries encountered in the adult population: epicondylitis, shoulder impingement/rotator cuff tears, patello-femoral dysfunction, and Achilles tendinitis. Stress fractures, the "ultimate" overuse injuries, are also discussed.

OBJECTIVE: Stair ambulation is an essential daily activity associated with maintaining mobility and musculoskeletal health, and its biomechanical characteristics may influence fall risk. This study aimed to examine how different stair-walking strategies-single-step and double-step ascent-affect peri-knee muscle forces and joint loading using OpenSim-based musculoskeletal simulations, thereby providing biomechanical insights for public health-oriented interventions in injury prevention and rehabilitation.
METHODS: Synchronized kinematic and kinetic data were imported into OpenSim musculoskelet

BACKGROUND: Anterior knee pain, with varus deformity and excessive external tibial torsion, can markedly impair function and quality of life. Although various surgical techniques address these deformities, dome-shaped osteotomy offers a promising approach for correcting malalignment while preserving joint integrity. This study evaluated clinical and radiological outcomes of dome-shaped osteotomy in patients with these combined deformities.
METHODS: Twenty-eight knees from 21 patients with anterior knee pain, varus deformity (more than 5°), and excessive external tibial torsion (more than 30°)

BACKGROUND: Patients after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) have decreased health-related quality of life (QoL) compared with healthy control participants. Few studies have verified the predictors of QoL using Quality of Life Outcome Measure Questionnaire for Chronic Anterior Cruciate Ligament Deficiency (ACL-QoL), and no study has verified the relationship of psychological factors and knee function with ACL-QoL in patients after ACLR.
HYPOTHESIS: Knee functional status, muscle strength, performance in hop tests, postural stability, and psychological factors would be the predi

PURPOSE: Partial meniscectomy is a common orthopedic procedure intended to improve knee pain and function in patients with irreparable meniscal tears. However, 6-25% of partial meniscectomy patients experience persistent knee pain after surgery. In this randomized controlled trial (RCT) involving subjects with knee pain following partial meniscectomy, it was hypothesized that treatment with a synthetic medial meniscus replacement (MMR) implant provides significantly greater improvements in knee pain and function compared to non-surgical care alone.
METHODS: In this prospective, multicenter RC

INTRODUCTION: Approximately 10% of men and 13% of women older than the age of 60 are affected by symptomatic osteoarthritis of the knee. Anatomic repair or reconstruction after knee injury has been a central tenet of surgical treatment to reduce the risk of osteoarthritis. The purpose of this study was to examine common sports medicine procedures of the knee and determine the proportion of patients who subsequently undergo total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
METHODS: The MarketScan database was queried from the period of January 2007 through December 2016. Patients were identified, who underwent a
