Energy homeostasis depends on both food intake and behavioral control of energy expenditure. The hypothalamic melanocortin system is classically associated with feeding regulation, but its broader behavioral roles remain less defined. Scrub typhus is a common bacterial infection in many parts of Asia. The causative agent, Orientia tsutsugamushi, is transmitted by trombiculid mite (chigger) larvae that require small mammals as maintaining hosts. Heterodera zeae, a cyst nematode, is a serious pest for economically crucial crops. Six extracts of Ceriops tagal were evaluated against infectious larvae of H. zeae through a glass cavity block assay, causing significant mortality to the larvae.
