The issue of the best place to attach an anterior cruciate ligament graft to the femur is controversial, and different anatomic or isometric points have been recommended. It was hypothesised that one attachment site could be identified that would be best for restoring normal anterior-posterior laxity throughout the range of knee flexion. Clostridia are anaerobic Gram-positive bacilli that can be isolated from the soil and the intestinal tract of humans. These microorganisms are recognized as the cause of devastating soft tissue infections, such as cellulitis, myositis, and gas gangrene. However, such bacteria may also be involved in various postoperative orthopedic infections, including prosthetic joint infection. We present three clinical cases of clostridial orthopedic infection and review the related medical literature.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine patient function and satisfaction prospectively after bilateral simultaneous open carpal tunnel release (CTR).

Patient positioning for operative procedures has long been associated with perioperative complications. We present a case report of shoulder dislocation, which occurred following positioning in the prone position, and was detected by axillary artery occlusion resulting in the loss of the radial artery blood pressure line waveform. The long-term effectiveness of scaphotrapeziotrapezoid (STT) fusion is still controversial. We evaluated our clinical and radiological results of 30 STT fusions in 30 patients (average age 41 years; 23 males, 7 females). The follow-up period averaged 84 months. The indications were Kienböck's disease ( n= 23), isolated STT arthrosis ( n = 6), and dislocation of the trapezium ( n = 1). A total of 26 simultaneous associated procedures were performed. This study examines the long-term results of 22 patients treated between 1938 and 1974 either surgically or by observation. Fourteen patients (16 scapulas) were treated by observation, seven patients (seven scapulas) were treated surgically by various methods, and one bilateral case was treated conservatively on one side and surgically on the other. We evaluated the long-term results of a modified Spitzy shelf operation for secondary osteoarthritis in 119 hips with a mean follow-up of 23.8 years. The mean age of the patients at the time of surgery was 25 years. Preoperative osteoarthritic change, the age at operation and shelf height were important factors in determining the outcome. This study reviews the preliminary results of transmidtarsal osteotomy performed on 11 patients (12 feet) who previously underwent surgery for resistant clubfoot and needed further surgery for severe residual deformities. Opening wedge medial cuneiform osteotomy, closing wedge cuboid osteotomy, and truncated wedge middle and lateral cuneiform osteotomy were performed. We report a case of atraumatic spontaneous posterior subluxation of the sternoclavicular joint in a 19-year-old woman without any known underlying pathology. There was no history of injury. The patient was treated operatively using the gracilis tendon to reinforce the anterior sternoclavicular ligament. One year later the patient is asymptomatic and has returned to her usual life.
