The global burden of calcified aortic valve stenosis: epidemiology, risk factors, disparities, and future perspectives - a narrative review.

Calcific aortic valve stenosis (CAVS) is the most common valvular heart disease requiring intervention. Progressive fibrocalcific thickening of the valve leaflets results in left ventricular outflow tract obstruction. Once symptoms emerge, CAVS is associated with high morbidity and mortality, contributing to over 100,000 deaths globally each year. The worldwide prevalence of CAVS is rising, affecting a 9.6 to 12.6 million people according to Global Disease Burden estimates, thereby becoming an increasingly public health burden. This narrative review summarizes current knowledge on the epidemio

What do primary care clinicians and patients think about internet-based computerized cognitive behavioral therapy for depression? A qualitative study from the Veterans Health Administration.

Depression can be effectively treated with internet-based computerized cognitive behavioral therapy (cCBT). The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) provided cCBT free to all veterans nationally as of 2013; however, its uptake has been limited. This study aimed to examine VHA primary care clinicians' and patients' perspectives regarding cCBT treatment for depression. We conducted semistructured interviews with 12 primary care clinicians (September-November 2020) and four focus groups involving 15 patients with depression (March-May 2021). Interview guides were developed using the Consolidated

Unmet Needs and Opportunities for Australian Innovation and Clinical Research to Improve Quality of Life and Outcomes in Patients With Peripheral Artery Disease.

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is characterised by atherosclerotic stenosis or occlusion of arteries that leads to reduced blood flow to the limbs. PAD is associated with a very high rate of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality making the health and economic burden of PAD substantial. Despite high-quality evidence and international guidelines recommending conservative medical management of risk factors, and exercise and lifestyle interventions, surgical revascularisation (open or endovascular) remains the main treatment for PAD. Alarmingly, up to one-third of patients do not receive best

Iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia in women of reproductive age: Sex- and gender-based risk factors and inequities.

Iron deficiency (ID) is a serious public health problem that affects 20-25 % of the population and 52 % of pregnant people worldwide. Biologically female women (women) of reproductive age have a higher risk of developing ID due to the increased physiologic demand for iron required to support menstruation and pregnancy. If left untreated, ID can develop into iron deficiency anaemia (IDA), which affects one in three women between the ages of 15-49 years worldwide. Among women of reproductive age, those who are pregnant have the highest risk of developing ID and IDA due to increased iron requirem

Decoding Stress Responses in Farmed Crustaceans: Comparative Insights for Sustainable Aquaculture Management.

Aquaculture is a crucial food-producing sector that can supply more essential nutrients to nourish the growing human population. However, it faces challenges, including limited water quality and space competition. These constraints have led to the intensification of culture systems for more efficient resource use while maintaining or increasing production levels. However, intensification introduces stress risks to cultured organisms by, for instance, overcrowding, waste accumulation, and water quality deterioration, which can negatively affect the growth, health, and immunity of animals and ca
