Perianal streptococcal dermatitis (PSD) is a recently described cutaneous entity caused by group A beta-hemolytic streptococci. The authors describe a therapeutically well managed case of severe salicylate intoxication in a patient with psoriasis who treated himself with 40 percent salicylic ointment applied to approximately 41 percent of his body surface. Nineteen hours after the application of salicylic acid, his blood level of the agent was 6.04 mmol/liter. The patient underwent hemodialysis and was discharged after fourteen days in good general health.

In a study on 76 patients suffering from psoriasis, we found melanocytic nevi (MCN) within psoriatic lesions in 7%, and in perilesional areas of about 2 cm in 13% of the patients. 175 patients with severe psoriasis of different types were treated with 10, 25, or 50 mg acitretin and compared with patients receiving 50 mg etretinate over a period of 8 weeks in a randomized, double-blind multicenter study in the Federal Republic of Germany. A direct clinical comparison has been made of the efficacy of oral 8-methoxypsoralen with bath-water delivery of 8-methoxypsoralen during psoralen ultraviolet A (PUVA) phototherapy for a group of forty patients with stable plaque-type psoriasis vulgaris.
