Syndromes caused by the compression of the neurovascular bundle are not a rare pathology, though their exact frequency cannot be assessed. Fractures of the thoracic spine (T2-T12) should be considered as a separate entity because of the anatomic features of the rib cage and spinal canal in this region. Four cases of effort-related axillosubclavian thrombosis are described. The pathogenesis of this disorder is related to an anatomic constriction of the vein by the clavicle and first rib complex associated with repetitive trauma to the vein and resultant changes in the vein wall itself.
