Remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema (RS3PE) is a rare condition in the elderly and can appear as a first presentation of various types of rheumatic and malignant diseases. We presented a 62-year-old man with the diagnosis of RS3PE based on the clinical sign and laboratory data. Because of the possibility of associated malignancies in RS3PE, FDG PET/CT was performed to exclude occult tumors. The images showed multiple, symmetrically, diffusely increased F-FDG uptake in the soft tissue around joints and bones in the shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic syndrome that causes widespread musculoskeletal pain and stiffness throughout the connective tissues that support and move the bones and joints. Pain and localized tender points occur in the muscles, particularly those that support the neck, spine, shoulders, and hips. Moreover the disorder includes fatigue, depression, sleep disturbances and constipation. A combination of treatments including medications, patient education, physical therapy and counseling are usually recommended. Here, we present a case report of fibromyalgia and the treatment given to the patient, a

Neck pain is a common cause for presentation to an emergency department. Most causes are benign and often secondary to arthritis or injuries. We present a case of septic cervical facet arthritis, a very rare cause of neck pain. The clinical presentation of septic cervical facet arthritis includes fever, neck pain that is often unilateral that is worse with movement, nerve root symptoms, and radiation of pain to the shoulder. Consequences may be severe and include joint destruction and infection progression. Symptoms may be indolent, and a high index of suspicion is necessary to make this diagn

Many patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Infection now live long due to the availability of antiretroviral drugs. This has resulted in many hitherto unknown complications being reported. We report a 56-year-old trader who presented with a seven-month history of pain in both shoulders and hips. Laboratory investigations and x-rays confirmed oesteonecrosis of both humeral heads and femoral heads in HIV/AIDS. She is presently on antiretroviral drugs and conservative management of her multiple joint disorders.

A 27-year-old female who suffered from aneurysmal bone cyst in sternal manubrium, which is histologically confirmed, underwent sternal manubriumectomy. Tumor was totally resected. Manubrial defect was replaced with two metal plates, which joined both stumps of the second ribs and both sternal ends of clavicles, respectively, and wide Marlex mesh. Using non-absorbable sutures, two metal plates were fixed to the mesh, and the mesh was also secured to surrounding structures, to hold the normal function of thorax and shoulder joints.

A patient with ossification of the ligaments of the entire vertebral column has shoulder difficulties due to ossification of the right costoclavicular ligament. The speculation is that the sclerotic changes in the clavicle were caused by the same inflammatory process that has involved the ligaments of the vertebral column and of the sacroiliac joints. In some cases reported in the literature, although not in ours, vascular structures in the costoclavicular space were involved, resulting in venous obstruction or phlebitis. The patient's therapy currently consists of rehabilitation exercises. No

Three patients who had various types of glenohumeral joint instability, and in whom computed tomography (CT) was utilized as an additional diagnostic modality, are presented. In two of the three patients, routine radiography supplemented with special views documented the presence of a Hill-Sachs lesion; in the third, an equivocal abnormality was apparent. In all three individuals, CT verified the presence of a Hill-Sachs lesion; in one patient, there was also a Bankart deformity. CT represents a new and important modality that may be applied to the diagnostic evaluation of patients with unstab

The aim of this study was to describe and evaluate an alternative MR assessment procedure for analysis of unstable shoulders. Twelve patients with unilateral recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation had both shoulders examined. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed with an open-MR system in the apprehension position with the shoulder in 90 degrees of abduction and maximum tolerable external rotation. Contrast enhancement was achieved with intravenous gadolinium. Correlations were made to the findings at operation. In 10 of 12 unstable shoulders the inferior glenohumeral ligament labral compl

BACKGROUND: Acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocations are common in young athletes. The optimal management of Rockwood type 3 injuries, which involve a complete tear of both the AC and coracoclavicular (CC) ligaments, remains controversial.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of surgical and nonoperative treatment of type 3 AC joint dislocations. The hypothesis was that surgical treatment would result in superior functional outcomes.
STUDY DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial; Level of evidence, 1.
METHODS: A total of 70 patients (mean age, 31.2

BACKGROUND: Baseball pitching requires precise coordination of the upper extremities to generate and transfer angular momentum efficiently while minimizing joint loading. Although the importance of temporal sequencing is recognized, few studies have examined how segmental momentum sequences vary across arm slot styles. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the temporal sequence of peak angular momentum across segments and determine its capacity to predict ball velocity and upper extremity joint loading among overhead (OH), three-quarter (QT), and sidearm (SA) collegiate pitchers

Background/Objectives: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a heterogeneous condition with diverse symptoms influenced by factors like gender, severity and the involvement of family and therapists. While many risk factors that contribute to ASD development are known, the exact etiology remains unclear. The relationship between speech ability and postural/gait patterns in ASD has not been extensively studied. This study aimed to verify if the ability to speak can affect body posture and gait patterns. Methods: The study involved 28 boys aged 6-17. The postural assessment used the Adams test, Bunne

Rotator cuff tear is the main form of shoulder joint injury, which seriously affects shoulder joint function. This study aimed to clarify the function and mechanism of exosomes containing polylactic acid (PLA), polylactic acid copolymer and BMP-2 in tendon bone healing of rotator cuff tear. First, CD44 expression in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and CD90 and CD44 in exosomes were analyzed by flow cytometry. Then, stability and targeting identification of exosome-delivered bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-2 and PLA microcapsules were measured by transmission electron microscopy (TE…

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of arthrotomy, when compared with arthroscopy, in the treatment of adults with septic arthritis of any joint.
METHODS: MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Scopus were searched to identify studies comparing arthrotomy and arthroscopy as therapeutic approaches in patients with septic arthritis of any joint. The main outcome was the re-infection rate. A meta-analysis was performed using the generic inverse variance method with random or fixed effects model depending on heterogeneity between studies. Heterogeneity was tested with the I2 statistic index.
RESULTS: Twenty studies

AIMS: Depression can significantly affect quality of life and is associated with higher rates of medical comorbidities and increased mortality following surgery. Although depression has been linked to poorer outcomes following orthopaedic trauma, total joint arthroplasty and spinal surgery, we wished to examine the impact of depression in elective total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) as this has not been previously explored.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The United States Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) was used to identify patients undergoing elective TSA over a ten-year period. Between 2002 and 2012
