The chlorophenyl groups of DDT and several of its metabolites are capable of participating in a charge-transfer interaction with tetracyanoethylene detectable in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum. In addition, during a change of state DDT undergoes ultraviolet spectral alterations that closely resemble those previously claimed to support the hypothesis suggesting charge-transfer interaction between this pesticide and a component of insect nerve tissue. The pesticide DDT possesses structural characteristics that would permit it to participate in several types of molecular association.

A comparison was made between chemically and spectrophotometrically determined concentrations of total bile pigment in the liquor amnii. For the period 16 to 26 weeks' gestation the upper limit of normal bile pigment to protein ratio was found to be 0.4. Levels above this would be required as an indication for intrauterine transfusion. In 110 cases of isoimmunization of pregnancy these criteria were applied in the diagnosis of severity of the condition. Zinc is an essential trace element. Previous methods of measuring zinc in clinical material have been difficult and reported findings must be treated with caution. Using atomic absorption spectroscopy it has been established that plasma zinc is one of the most uniform biochemical characteristics of normal adult blood. Sex and age differences in adult life are insignificant. Increased metabolic activity, on the other hand, induces a marked, immediate fall in plasma zinc level.
