The purpose of this study was to describe digestive tract emergencies observed in adult HIV-infected patients at the Campus Teaching Hospital in Lomé, Togo. The high prevalence of urinary schistosomiasis in Togo and its late management often lead to sequels. This study takes stock of these cancerous and non-cancerous lesions observed on histological pieces in the pathology laboratory of the Teaching Hospital of Lome in 10 years. We find 28.1 % of malignant tumor lesions, dominated by urothelial carcinoma.

Chemodectoma, a neuroendocrine tumour of the paraganglionic cells in the carotid body remains an uncommon tumour. We report the first case from University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Nigeria. Though with a red herring history of trauma induced swelling, clinical and radiologic features were characteristic of chemodectoma. Histologic features of the excised lesion are presented.

A retrospective analysis of 145 medical records from our teaching hospital laboratory showed an overall specificity of greater than 97% for the IgA immunosorbent agglutination assay (ISAGA A) performed on the sera of babies to diagnose congenital toxoplasmosis (CT). These actualized data emphasize the ability of this test to confirm a diagnosis of congenital toxoplasmosis.

A 1,600 gm baby with sirenomelia (caudal regression syndrome) associated with extensive anomalies in the internal organs occurring in one of a set of monochromic twins delivered at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Shagamu, Nigeria is being reported. Three cases of unilateral tubal twin pregnancies and four cases of simultaneous bilateral tubal pregnancy recorded in a Nigerian University Teaching Hospital were reviewed. The incidences were 1 in 68 and 1 in 51 ectopic pregnancies respectively. High twinning rates within the environment and tubal damage from pelvic infections were considered as possible etiologic factors.
