AIM: To study the behavior of external urethral sphincter in chronic prostatitis (CP) patient under natural filling.
METHODS: Twenty-one CP patients and 17 normal volunteers were involved in the study. Both the patients and volunteers underwent ambulatory urodynamic monitoring (AM) and conventional medium filling cystometry (CMG). Urodec 500 was used for AM and Menuet for CMG. AM findings from CP patients were compared with those from normal volunteers, and the results from AM were compared with those from CMG.

We review the literature and report a series of eight cases of balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO) developing in patients following primary hypospadias repair. The ages of these patients ranged from 8 to 25 years with BXO developing from 1 to 16 years postoperatively. Six patients were treated by excision of the BXO tissue and two-stage urethroplasties with full-thickness grafts. The management of posterior urethral obliteration remains a surgical challenge. We report our experience with 5 patients treated endoscopically for posterior urethral obliteration. We performed endoscopic reconstitution of the urethra followed by temporary self-dilation in five patients with complete short posterior urethral obliteration (less than 3 cm). OBJECTIVES: Snodgrass recently described a form of urethral tubularization with longitudinal incision of the urethral plate to create an elliptical meatus. To prevent fistulae, a transverse island of dorsal subcutaneous tissue was used to cover the repair. The generation of this flap may compromise blood supply to the skin that is used in the skin closure, and predispose to penile torsion. A new one-stage operation for correction of the more severe degrees of proximal hypospadias is described. This allows for the correction of chordee and maintains a dual vascular supply to the urethral flap derived from periurethral and pedicle blood vessels. OBJECTIVES: It is hypothesized that patients with vulvar vestibulitis syndrome will demonstrate increased urethral pressure variability.
STUDY DESIGN: Twelve patients with confirmed vulvar vestibulitis syndrome were compared with two groups: 13 patients with chronic pelvic pain matched for age and race and 23 asymptomatic unmatched patients. Urodynamic variables studied included maximum urethral pressure, functional urethral length, bladder capacity, and urethral pressure variability. We reviewed the cases of the exstrophy/epispadias complex treated at our institution between July 1976 and April 1992. A total of 78 patients was identified who had paraexstrophy skin flaps used in the bladder closure, of whom 31 (40%) had a complication as a result of the flaps. Antegrade urethroscopy was performed through a cystostomy using a 10.8-fr caliber flexible renoureteroscope in 4 children (aged 2 years and 8 months, 2 months, 14 years and 1 month) with anterior urethral valve.
