Absorption spectrum of α,ω-diphenylhexadecaoctaene has been measured along with those of α,ω-diphenylpolyenes with one to seven double bonds in the polyene chain in carbon tetrachloride at room temperature. Extrapolation of the observed vibrational frequencies in the 1(1)Bu state measured as a function of polyene double bond number provides the CC and CC stretching frequencies of 1520±20 and 1080±20 cm(-1), respectively, for diphenylpolyenes with infinite polyene chain length.

BACKGROUND: Calcium carbonate is a commonly used dietary supplement and has been shown to interfere with levothyroxine absorption. However, calcium citrate, which is also used for supplementation purposes, has not been studied previously and calcium acetate, which is used to treat hyperphosphatemia in renal failure, has been reported to show little or no interference with levothyroxine absorption in a retrospective pharmacoepidemiologic study. Hysteroscopy is the current gold standard for evaluating intrauterine pathology, including submucous fibroids, polyps, hyperplasia and cancer. However, there are still problems and complications connected to hysteroscopy. Fluid overload of 1-2l occurs in approximately 5.2% and >2l in 1% of cases. Critical concentration of methylmercuric chloride (MeHgCl) in the nutrient solution to which Spartina plants are tolerant is 15 micromol/L, three times higher than that of tobacco plants. After being treated with methylmercuric chloride, total quantity of organic mercury within plants increased and that of nutrient solution decreased greatly so that total quantity of inorganic mercury rose. We report the first case of dermal absorption of an indandione derivative rodenticide causing severe coagulopathy. Two cases of paraquat poisoning resulting from skin absorption are reported. One patient died from respiratory failure 26 d after deliberate application of the herbicide onto his whole body as a treatment for scabies. The other patient developed extensive dermatitis (probably a complication of pre-existing psoriasis). Only a moderate and transitory impairment of this latter patient's renal and respiratory functions were observed after repeated exposure of his damaged skin to a dilute paraquat spray.
