This case report presents a 57 years-old woman treated for a squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal by radiochemotherapy and brachytherapy. The particularity of this case lays on the fact that she presented a mediastinal and pleural metastatic evolution three years later, which was also treated by radiochemotherapy, leading to a complete remission of 50 months. This observation is interesting for its curative treatment in metastatic cancer of the anal canal. It also illustrates the radiosensibility of anal canal cancers, including metastatic situations, and raises the contribution of PET-sc

A 32-year-old woman with congenital intestinal lymphangiectasia (CIL) and warts (condylomata acuminata) was found to have bowenoid papulosis, Bowen's disease and squamous-cell carcinoma, at first in the anus, later also in the vulva. Limited surgical measures and laser vaporization with systemic and topical administration of interferon controlled the tumour development for some time. But after 7 years the squamous-cell carcinoma recurred with infiltration of the outer anogenital region. The patient then had an episode of thrombotic cerebral ischemia, which prevented a planned abdominoperineal

A case of perianal invasive Paget's disease associated with a sigmoid colon carcinoma is presented. The chief complaint was perianal irritation for a year. Histologic examination yielded a correct diagnosis and abdominosacral resection with wide excision of the cutaneous component was performed. Histology of the resected specimen revealed the Paget's disease to be invasive of the dermis, the sigmoid colon carcinoma to be in Dukes' A stage and the two lesions to be different. The patient has been disease-free for more than 5 years after the operation.

This is the 14th case report of squamous cell carcinoma in situ developing in perianal condyloma acuminata. A 72-year-old nonhomosexual man suffered this lesion 11 months after his condyloma was first fulgurated. The lesion was excised locally. He received no local or systemic chemotherapy. Random biopsies on several occasions since that time have not shown any evidence of local recurrence. Squamous-cell carcinoma in situ in perianal condyloma must be distinguished from Bowen's disease and extramammary Paget's disease of the perianal skin, both of which have associated skin rashes. Although Bo

BACKGROUND: Basal cell carcinoma of the perianal region is a rare anorectal disease. This condition is not related to exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Because of the low prevalence and poor detection, there is a paucity of data relating to this condition in the literature. Perianal basal cell carcinoma presents surgical challenges different from other anatomic locations and may not share the same prevalence or natural history. Here, we describe the largest series to date on the surgical management of perianal basal cell carcinoma.
OBJECTIVE: We aimed to present our 35-year experience in man

A 75-year-old man presented to a local clinic with anal pain, and a palpable anal tumor on was found on digital examination of the rectum. A biopsy led to the diagnosis of neuroendocrine carcinoma. Besides the anal tumor, an right-inguinal lymph node was revealed on computed tomography(CT). Positron emission tomography-CT showed abnormal uptake in the 2 regions. He was diagnosed with lymph node metastases from anal canal carcinoma, and an abdominoperineal resection was performed. The resected specimen included the anal canal tumor with a size of 27×18 mm in diameter. On immunohistochemistry, t

Local recurrences are more common after abdominoperineal excision (APE) than after anterior resection of rectal cancer. Extralevator APE was introduced to address this problem. The post anal minimally invasive approach had been used by other authors for transperineal mesh rectopexy but not in cancer management. Our aim is to use the post-anal minimally invasive approach for better visualization and division of the levator Ani during the Extralevator abdominoprineal excision in 2 cases of carcinoma of the anal canal. After laparoscopic exploration of the abdomen and performing a laparoscopic ne

Multiple hepatic metastases are uncommon as initial presentation of primary anal malignant melanoma. We report FDG PET/CT findings of pathology-proven hepatic metastases from anal malignant melanoma of unknown origin in a 43-year-old woman whose initial presentation was worsening abdominal pain.

Anal canal adenocarcinoma with pagetoid spread has different a treatment strategy and prognosis from extramammary perianal Paget disease. We report two cases of anal canal adenocarcinoma with pagetoid spread along with a literature review. Case 1: A 69-year-old woman complained of perianal pain, redness, and erosion. Biopsy revealed adenocarcinoma with pagetoid spread. Laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection was performed, which resulted in 12 months' survival without postoperative recurrence. Case 2: A 62-year-old man complained of fecal occult blood and hemorrhoid. Under the diagnosis of ana

Hidradenoma papilliferum is an uncommon benign tumour that is located in the anogenital region of middle-aged women. They are usually only diagnosed after excision and are thought to arise from anogenital mammary-like glands. We present the case of a young woman who noticed a slow growing perianal lump which caused minimal symptoms.

RATIONALE: Acute colonic diverticulitis is a well-known surgical emergency, which occurs in about 10 percent of patients known for diverticulosis.
PATIENT CONCERNS: The case of a 77-year-old woman is reported, with past history of abdominoperineal resection with end-colostomy for low rectal adenocarcinoma, and who developed an acute colonic diverticulitis in a subcutaneous portion of colostomy with parastomal phlegmon.
DIAGNOSES: Initial computed tomography imaging demonstrated a significant submucosal parietal edema with local fat tissues infiltration in regard of 3 diverticula.

Perianal rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare type of tumor with a relatively poor prognosis. We present the case of a patient who presented with a cutaneous perianal hamartoma at the age of 6 weeks. 21 months latter a recurrent mass at the excision site proved to be an embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma involving the anal sphincter. A pathologic review of the two specimens confirmed their relatedness. This report highlights the need to maintain a high level of suspicion in cases of recurrence following excision of a benign lesion.

A case of localized histiocytosis X of the penis was reported. The patient was a 9-year-old boy who had several tumor lesions on the glans penis and inner layer of prepuce. Biopsy specimens were studied by H-E staining and immunohistochemical staining for S-100 protein (S-100), lysozyme (Lys), leucocyte common antigen (LCA), and Leu-M1. They revealed diffuse infiltration of many atypical histiocytes, which were shown to be S-100+, Lys+, LCA- and Leu-M1-. This indicates that these cells were derived from T-zone histiocyte system. After complete remission of these tumors, the other one arose fro
