Parathyroid adenoma (PA), one of the most common causes of hyperparathyroidism, generally involves a single parathyroid gland and is manifested as hyperparathyroidism. Bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital cystic lesions caused by a development malformation in bronchi during the embryonic period, which mostly occur in the lung and mediastinum, with an extremely low morbidity rate in the neck. A 27-year-old young female was found to suffer from hyperparathyroidism on routine physical examination, and further examination suggested a cystic lesion in the right inferior parathyroid area combined …

The authors report the case of a 61-year old woman who was operated upon for a paraoesophageal cyst of the bronchogenic type. Having reviewed the French literature on the latest cases, they underline the scarcity of these congenital formations which present as mediastinal cystic tumours with benign expression and course. Computed tomography suggests the diagnosis and reveals the intraparietal site of the cyst. A return to the histogenesis of these cysts makes it possible to understand the nosological distinction with the true bronchogenic cysts and to evaluate the recent classifications.

We present a new case of a cutaneous bronchogenic cyst on the scapular area in a 2-year-old boy. The asymptomatic nodule over his right scapula had been detected at birth and had been gradually growing. Cutaneous bronchogenic cysts located near the scapula are extremely rare. The proposed mechanism is that the accessory buds from the tracheobronchial tree/primitive foregut migrated from the thorax in an aberrant manner to lie in a periscapular position. Cutaneous bronchogenic cysts are poorly recognized by clinicians because they lack pathognomonic clinical symptoms. The diagnosis is based on …

Acute myocardial infarction caused by a bronchogenic cyst is a very rare pathology. It occurs as a result of external compression of the coronary artery by the cyst, leading to myocardial ischemia. The present case illustrates that a bronchogenic cyst, which is generally considered to be a chronic disease entity with gradual onset of symptoms, can manifest acutely as a life-threatening condition. Timely invasive coronary intervention is critical in the acute management of this complication while multimodality imaging assessment is essential in the subsequent management of the underlying etiolo…

INTRODUCTION: mediastinal cysts are rare lesions developed from mediastinal structures. They may be acquired like thoracic duct cysts or lymphangiomas or congenital like the bronchogenic cysts, enteric cysts or celomic cysts. These cysts are rare and may cause diagnostic challenges.
AIM: To assess the major characteristics of these cysts based on a single institution experience.
METHODS: the authors performed a descriptive, retrospective study from January 2009 to March 2020 in a single institution. Cystic lesions taking birth from the mediastinum for which gross features, microscopic featur…

UNLABELLED: Bronchogenic cyst of the mediastinum, a cause of stridor early in life, is the result of abnormal budding of the ventral segment of the primitive foregut. Bronchogenic cysts are often asymptomatic in older children and adults. However, symptomatic cases usually manifest early in life with cough, stridor or wheezing due to airway compression. We report a female infant aged 4.5 months with a normal full-term pregnancy, who developed respiratory distress with stridor. This stridor was preceded by a history of slowly progressive noisy breathing. Physical examination revealed evidence o…

A 75 year-old woman presented to the authors' institution with abdominal pain and early satiety. An adrenal mass was found on CT scanning. Laparoscopic adrenalectomy was performed, and the patient was found to have a retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst adherent to the adrenal gland. The workup of an adrenal mass is discussed as well as the pathophysiology of bronchogenic cysts.

Congenital lung cysts are congenital anomaly of the trachea-bronchial tree, known as "bronchogenic" cysts. In this research study, the staff of the Department of Pediatric surgery - UMHAT "St.George" - Plovdiv, shares its experience in the treatment of four children with congenital bronchogenic cysts. Methods and ways of treatment are revealed precisely, also including other alternatives of surgical treatment. Thoracotomy and cystectomy are the methods of choice, while the Seldinger puncture of the cyst under ultrosonography control has been used in the case of one child. Results and outcome o…

Congenital oral cysts of foregut origin include bronchogenic, enteric, and oesophageal cysts, and they are much rarer than the well described dermoid, epidermoid, and thyroglossal cysts. The exact aetiology is poorly understood, but they are thought to arise from misplaced embryonic rests of the primitive foregut. The presentation of cysts lined by respiratory or gastrointestinal epithelium in the oral cavity is unusual. There have been previous reports of bronchogenic or gastrointestinal epithelium-lined lingual cysts, but few report both features occurring within the same cyst. In view of th

A 33-year-old woman with chest pain and hemoptysis was found to have a large mediastinal mass. As the radiology imagings were inconclusive, she underwent diagnostic endobronchial ultrasound-transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA). After the procedure she developed mediastinitis, which required video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery excision and intravenous antibiotics. Bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital anomalies. Traditionally, surgical resection has been recommended as the first-line treatment option for both symptomatic and asymptomatic bronchogenic cysts due to concerns of late comp…

Bronchogenic cysts that formed during the development of the tracheobronchial tree in the gestational period are mostly asymptomatic until adulthood. Cysts localized in the middle mediastinum, specifically in the subcarinal region, on the other hand, may cause serious symptoms by compressing the heart and major vessels due to their close proximity. In this report it is suggested that surgical resection of a giant bronchogenic cyst that compresses the heart and great vessels should be securely performed in the presence of a readily available cardiopulmonary bypass capability.

Secondary bronchogenic hydatid disease is a rare and little known complication of primary hydatid cyst of the lung, which is even refuted by some authors. We report 7 cases of secondary bronchogenic hydatid after surgical cure of a hydatid cyst which had ruptured into the bronchi, while the last case concerned a young girl who was treated by corticosteroids for rheumatoid arthritis and who developed secondary bronchogenic hydatid from a cyst rupturing into the bronchi in the absence of surgery. Hydatid dissemination was ipsilateral to the primary cyst in 5 cases, contralateral in one case and

BACKGROUND: Bronchial cysts are congenital malformations usually located in the mediastinum, and intrapulmonary localization is very rare. Cryoablation is a novel therapeutic approach that promotes tumor necrosis and stimulates anti-tumor immune responses.
CASE SUMMARY: This article reports a case of a 68-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with an intrapulmonary bronchogenic cyst by computed tomography examination and pathology, and the patient subsequently underwent cryoablation therapy and achieved complete response with after 3 months of follow-up.
CONCLUSION: Intrapulmonary bronchog…

Mediastinal cysts are mostly congenital, but rarely, infections and malignancies can cause cystic degeneration of enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes. Diagnosis is challenging as the presenting symptoms are nonspecific. Surgical resection is the reference modality both for diagnosis and management. Secondary infection of mediastinal bronchogenic cyst with Mycobacterium tuberculosis is rare. Herein, we describe a young male who was managed as bronchial asthma with inhalational bronchodilators and glucocorticoids. Computed tomography revealed a cystic lesion in the subcarinal region. Endobronchial …

PURPOSE: Congenital mediastinal cysts are an uncommon but important diagnostic group. Most of these cysts are benign and asymptomatic in adults. However, some of them are clinically problematic due to the compression of neighboring organs, infection, or perforation.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 20-year-old man presented with severe dyspnea. Imaging revealed a mediastinal cyst in the subcarinal space compressing his right pulmonary artery and airway, which was later diagnosed as a bronchogenic cyst. Due to quick symptom exacerbation, emergent cyst wall fenestration was performed through video-assisted…

We experienced 8 cases of esophageal cysts on between January, 1965 and March, 1989. During the same period, 320 cases of mediastinal tumors … xaminations of the cysts showed ciliated columnar epithelium in all cases. Cartilage were observed (bronchogenic cysts) in 4 patients (50%) and two muscle layers were observed (duplication cysts) in 4 other patients (50%). But 2 cases of bronchogenic cysts had two muscular layers, 1 case of them was well-defined. And 1 case of duplication cyst had poor two muscular …

INTRODUCTION: A Müllerian cyst is a recently defined rare benign tumor of the posterior mediastinum. It is necessary to distinguish it from neurogenic tumor or bronchogenic cyst arising in the posterior mediastinum. Herein, we have reported and reviewed a case of Müllerian cyst in the light of the existing literature.
PRESENTATION OF A CASE: A 40-year-old woman was referred to our department for abnormal mediastinal tumor on computed tomography (CT). Chest CT revealed a 2-cm nodule in the left posterior mediastinum, while magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) T2-weighted scan revealed an elliptica…

Bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital anomalies that originate from the foregut and are often incidentally detected in adults during imaging studies. While they are typically asymptomatic, they can pose significant challenges during surgical interventions, particularly in patients undergoing bariatric surgery. We report a case of a 49-year-old woman with morbid obesity (BMI = 40 kg/m2) who underwent a preoperative evaluation for bariatric surgery. During routine ultrasonography, a 4 cm anechoic retrogastric cyst was identified, initially thought to represent a pancreatic pseudocyst. Computed …

A ciliated cyst of foregut origin is often found in relation to the tracheobronchial tree and the upper gastrointestinal tract, when it is called bronchogenic cyst and enterogenous cyst, respectively. Cysts of this type rarely occur in the pancreas. We report a case of ciliated foregut cyst involving the pancreas, and mimicking teratomatous tumour on radiology.
