Integration of lipidomics and flavoromics reveals the lipid-flavor transformation mechanism of fish oil from silver carp visceral with different enzymatic hydrolysis.

Lipidomics and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of fish oil from silver carp visceral hydrolyzed by papain, alkaline protease, pepsin, neutral protease, flavor protease, trypsin, and complex protease were investigated to explore the lipid-flavor transformation mechanism. Our results showed that diglycerol (DG, 18:4/16:1, 18:3/18:3, 16:0/18:3)/fatty acids (20:4) in glycerides and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE, 4:0/18:2)/phosphatidylglycerol (8:0e/10:3) in phospholipids could be used as markers to distinguish fish oil by different enzymolysis. A total of 130 and 36 VOCs were detected in fish oil

A simultaneous hermaphrodite dwarf common carp (Cyprinus carpio carpio morpha hungaricus) from a natural thermal lake, Lake Hévíz, Hungary.

The fauna of Lake Hévíz is unique due to its status as the world's only natural warm-water medicinal lake with a peat bed. A population of dwarf common carp (Cyprinus carpio carpio morpha hungaricus) forms an isolated, self-sustaining community in the lake, adapted to extreme thermal and chemical conditions. During continuous research conducted since 2007, we identified a hermaphroditic individual for the first-time following sampling during the winter period in 2024. Macroscopic examination revealed testicular tissue distinguishable from ovarian tissue. Histological analysis indicated that th

Microplastic exposure induces structural hyperplasia in the gill tissue of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) through immunosuppression, metabolic disruption, and structural damage.

Microplastics (MPs), as ubiquitous pollutants in aquatic environments, constitute a significant component of water pollution, posing substantial ingestion risks to directly exposed fish. However, research on the potential toxic effects and underlying mechanisms of MPs on fish gills remains insufficient. Therefore, this study investigated the impacts of exposure to different concentrations of polystyrene MPs (100 and 400 μg/L) on the histological structure and gene expression in the gills of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus). Through integrated histopathological and transcriptomic analyses,

Exposure to environmentally relevant concentrations of di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) induced reproductive toxicity in female koi carp (Cyprinus carpio).

A frequently utilized plasticizer is di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), considered a ubiquitous contaminant in the environment and reported to have severe impacts on animals. Although it disrupts the female reproductive system in mammals, little is known about how it effects on fish reproduction. The reproductive parameters of female adult koi carp (Cyprinus carpio) were investigated in this study subjected to environmentally relevant exposure of DEHP (1, 10 and 100 μg/L). After 60 days experiment, significantly lower GSI was recorded in females of 10 and 100 μg/L DEHP-exposed groups. The exa

Modification of myofibrillar protein structural characteristics: Effect of ultrasound-assisted first-stage thermal treatment on unwashed Silver Carp surimi gel.

The hardness properties of unwashed surimi gel are considered as the qualities of gelation defect. This research investigated the effect of ultrasound-assisted first-stage thermal treatment (UATT) on the physicochemical properties of unwashed Silver Carp surimi gel, and the enhancement mechanism. UATT could reduce protein particle size, which significantly reduced from 142.22 μm to 106.70 μm after 30 min of UATT compared with the nature protein. This phenomenon can promote the protein crosslinking, resulting in the hardness of surimi gel increased by 15.08 %. Partially unfolded structure of my

CD4-1 and CD4-2 single positive are two major CD4 lymphocyte subpopulations in ginbuna crucian carp Carassius auratus langsdorfii.

In this study, we established a murine cell line that expresses ginbuna crucian carp (ginbuna) CD4-2 and used it to develop an anti-CD4-2 monoclonal antibody (mAb). An established mAb, named D5, showed good reactivities to BALB/c 3T3 cells expressing CD4-2 and a lymphocyte population in the ginbuna leukocytes. Gene expression analysis showed that D5+ cells express CD4-2 and TCRβ genes but not CD4-1 and IgM genes, meanwhile May Grunwald-Giemsa staining of sorted D5+ cells had the typical morphology of lymphocytes. IL-4/13 expressing CD3γ/δ+ T cells regulate mucosal immunity in response to Flavobacterium columnare infection in grass carp.

Interleukin (IL) 4 and 13 are signature cytokines orchestrating Th2 immune response. Teleost fish have two homologs, termed IL-4/13A and IL-4/13B, and have been functionally characterized. However, what cells express IL-4/13A and IL-4/13B has not been investigated in fish. In this work, the recombinant IL-4/13A and IL-4/13B proteins of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) were produced in the Escherichia coli (E. coli) cells and purified. Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against the recombinant CiIL-4/13A and CiIL-4/13B proteins were prepared and characterized. Western blotting analysis showed tha

Tartrazine exposure results in histological damage, oxidative stress, immune disorders and gut microbiota dysbiosis in juvenile crucian carp (Carassius carassius).

Tartrazine (TZ) is an azo dye widely used in foods, cosmetics, beverages, textile, and leather. In recent years, there are reports on detecting azo dyes in the aquatic environment, so the impact of these compounds on aquatic organisms could not be ignored. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the adverse effects of TZ exposure on teleosts' embryo development and juvenile's health by using crucian carp (Carassius carassius) as the experimental fish. The results showed that embryos exposed to TZ (0.19, 0.76 and 1.5 mM) exhibited a deformity, delayed egg resorption and decreased fertilization and

Molecular characterization of a new IgZ3 subclass in common carp (Cyprinus carpio) and comparative expression analysis of IgH transcripts during larvae development.

BACKGROUND: Immunoglobulins (Igs) distributed among systemic immune tissues and mucosal immune tissues play important roles in protecting teleosts from infections in the pathogen-rich aquatic environment. Teleost IgZ/IgT subclasses with different tissue expression patterns may have different immune functions. RESULTS: In the present study, a novel secreted IgZ heavy chain gene was cloned and characterized in common carp (Cyprinus carpio). This gene exhibited a different tissue-specific expression profile than the reported genes IgZ1 and IgZ2. The obtained IgZ-like subclass gene designated CcI

Expression and functional analysis of the BCL2-Associated agonist of cell death (BAD) gene in grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) during bacterial infection.

The BCL2-associated agonist of cell death protein is a key participant in apoptosis dependent on mitochondria and in disease progression that involves the regulation of cell death, such as tumorigenesis, diabetes, sepsis shock, and epilepsy. Nevertheless, the mechanisms underlying the immune responses to teleost BAD bacterial infection and mitochondrial-dependent apoptosis remains unclear. In order to elucidate the mechanisms involved, in this study, a Ctenopharyngodon idella (grass carp) BAD gene named GcBAD1 was firstly cloned and characterized. The results indicated that the ORF (open readi

Differential impacts of carp and salmon pituitary extracts on induced oogenesis, egg quality, molecular ontogeny and embryonic developmental competence in European eel.

Low egg quality and embryonic survival are critical challenges in aquaculture, where assisted reproduction procedures and other factors may impact egg quality. This includes European eel (Anguilla anguilla), where pituitary extract from carp (CPE) or salmon (SPE) is applied to override a dopaminergic inhibition of the neuroendocrine system, preventing gonadotropin secretion and gonadal development. The present study used either CPE or SPE to induce vitellogenesis in female European eel and compared impacts on egg quality and offspring developmental competence with emphasis on the maternal-to-z

Glyphosate induces lymphocyte cell dysfunction and apoptosis via regulation of miR-203 targeting of PIK3R1 in common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.).

Glyphosate is a widely used pesticide worldwide. The problem surrounding glyphosate is worth investigating, especially with its increased use, and an increasing number of studies have found that the toxic effect of glyphosate is objective. MiR-203 was seldom found in fish diseases or glyphosate researches. This article aims to explore the effect of miR-203 on carp lymphocytes during glyphosate exposure. Therefore, acridine orange/ethidium bromide (AO/EB) and flow cytometry were carried out to evaluate apoptosis, and we also detected CYPs (CYP1A1, CYP1B1, CYP1C), cytokine secretion (IL-1β, IL-8

B subunit of cholera toxin fused with VP7 from GCRV (grass carp reovirus) was expressed in E. coli and folds into an active protein.

Grass carp reovirus (GCRV) is one of the most serious pathogens threatening grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) production and results in high mortality in China. To obtain a genetically engineered oral vaccine against GCRV, the cholera toxin B subunit (CTB) of Vibrio cholerae was fused to VP7 (CTB-VP7) and transformed into BL21(DE3) for expression. SDS-PAGE and Western blotting showed that the purified rCTB-VP7 fusion protein (rCTB-VP7) was approximately 49.0 kDa. The monomeric nature of rCTB-VP7 through multistage purification showed a binding affinity for GM1, a receptor for biologically a
