Metastatic adenocarcinoma of the cervix presenting as a choroidal mass: A case report and review of literature of cervical metastases to the eye.

Cervical cancer is the most common cancer among females in India. Cervical cancer usually spreads by local extension and through the lymphatic drainage to the lymph nodes. Hematogenous spread, the mechanism responsible for distant metastases, is rarely seen in cervical malignancies. In this communication, we report a case of a 45-year-old woman who presented with unilateral decrease in vision of 3 months duration. She was found to have a serous retinal detachment with underlying diffuse, subretinal yellowish-cream colored infiltrates in the right eye, suspicious of choroidal metastases. System

[Iris neovascularization, increased intraocular pressure and vitreous hemorrhage as risk factors for invasion of the optic nerve and choroid in children with retinoblastoma].

A review of 289 eyes enculeated for retinoblastoma to evaluate prognostic factors for involvement of the choroid or optic nerve revealed choroidal invasion in 67 eyes (22%) and optic nerve invasion in 84 eyes (27%) due to retinoblastoma. Intraocular pressure (IOP) > or = 22 mmHg was found in 85 eyes prior to enucleation. A total of 118 eyes (38% showed histopathologic evidence of the development of glaucoma: 90 of them with iris neovascularisation and 28 with angle closure configuration. Patients with elevated IOP, iris neovascularisation and angle closure configuration had a significantly hig

Super-Resolution Ultrasound for Microvascular-Based Differentiation of Benign and Malignant Choroidal Tumors: A Preliminary Study.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the diagnostic utility of super-resolution ultrasound (SRUS) in differentiating benign from malignant choroidal tumors based on microvascular characteristics. METHODS: This prospective study enrolled 79 patients with choroidal tumors, including 41 malignant and 38 benign lesions. All participants underwent conventional ultrasound (US), contrast-enhanced ultrasound, and SRUS examinations. SRUS images were qualitatively evaluated for microvascular disorganization and complexity and quantitatively analyzed using multiple vascular parameters. The diagnostic performance of dif

PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY FOR EXTRAFOVEOLAR CHOROIDAL OSTEOMA.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the outcome of photodynamic therapy (PDT) in the management of extrafoveolar choroidal osteoma. METHODS: The authors performed a retrospective chart review of all patients with choroidal osteoma that did not involve the foveola and were treated with standard-fluence PDT. RESULTS: Nine eyes with extrafoveolar choroidal osteoma were studied. Mean logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution best-corrected visual acuity at initial examination was 0.07 (Snellen ∼20/25). The osteoma was treated with 1 (8/9) or 2 (1/9) PDT sessions using 50 J/cm. After a mean follow-up of 49 m

Hydrocephalus due to villous hypertrophy of the choroid plexus in the lateral ventricles. Case report.

A case is reported of hydrocephalus due to overproduction of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) caused by villous hypertrophy of the choroid plexus in the lateral ventricles. A 7-year-old girl with mental retardation developed gait disturbance; hydrocephalus and a Dandy-Walker cyst were detected on computerized tomography. She was initially treated with a ventriculoperitoneal shunt; however, shunting failed to control the hydrocephalus. The excessive outflow of CSF suggested choroid plexus abnormality, and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging revealed enlargement of the choroid plexus in both lateral ventri

Differential diagnosis of leukokoria: radiologic-pathologic correlation.

Leukokoria is an abnormal pupillary light reflection that usually results from an intraocular abnormality and is seen most often in children. One-half of the cases of childhood leukokoria are caused by retinoblastoma, a malignant tumor of immature retinoblasts that manifests in a normal-sized eye as a calcified mass, is often partially necrotic, and grows into the vitreous and through the choroid. Retinoblastoma enhances with contrast material and, unlike most tumors, may be darker than vitreous on T2-weighted images. When leukokoria is associated with microphthalmia, persistent hyperplastic p

[Intravitreal injection of bevacizumab for CNV secondary to choroidal osteoma and follow-up by Spectral-Domain OCT].

BACKGROUND: Choroidal osteoma is a rare, ossifying tumor, which, while benign, may be complicated by choroidal neovascularization. METHODS: An 11-year-old boy presented with blurred vision in the right eye for few days. Fundus examination showed bulky lesion in the posterior pole containing a sub-retinal hemorrhage. The geographic borders and color of the mass were typical of choroidal osteoma despite the unusual macular location. The diagnosis was confirmed by ultrasonography. The patient was treated with three successive intravitreal injections of 1.25 mg/0.05 mL bevacizumab (IVB) under gen

Pseudo-inflammatory manifestations of choroidal lymphoma resembling Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease: case report based on multimodal imaging.

BACKGROUND: Hematologic malignancies occasionally cause serous retinal detachment (SRD); however, its pathogenesis remains unclear. Here we present the imaging characteristics of metastatic choroidal lymphoma masquerading as Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease. CASE PRESENTATION: A 45-year-old Japanese woman was referred to our clinic because of bilateral SRD with blurred vision. Fluorescein angiography revealed multiple pinpoint leakage followed by pooling OU. Enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography showed marked choroidal thickening OU. Laser speckle flowgraphy detected choroidal

[Outcome of photodynamic therapy for subretinal neovascularization secondary to choroidal nevi].

INTRODUCTION: Choroidal nevi are the most common benign intraocular tumors. However, the occurrence of subretinal neovascularization secondary to choroidal nevus is very rare. Our goal was to assess the efficacy and the safety of photodynamic therapy (PDT) for treatment of subretinal neovascularization related to choroidal nevi. PATIENTS AND METHOD: We conducted a retrospective study including subretinal neovascularization secondary to choroidal nevi treated by PDT from 1999 to 2005. PDT was performed according to the standard protocols used for treating neovascularization due to age-related

Combined central retinal and posterior ciliary artery occlusion in a young female with primary myelofibrosis and Sweet's syndrome: A case report.

Primary myelofibrosis (PMF) is a rare myeloproliferative neoplasm that typically affects older adults but may present aggressively in younger patients. Thromboembolic complications are well recognized, though arterial occlusions are uncommon in this age group. Ocular ischemia associated with systemic inflammatory conditions such as Sweet's syndrome is exceedingly rare. A 22-year-old female with PMF, diagnosed 18 months earlier and managed initially with ruxolitinib, presented with sudden, complete loss of vision in her left eye. She also had a history of Sweet's syndrome managed with oral cort
