AI In Leukemia Diagnostics: Complementing the Pathologist's Role.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping every stage of leukemia diagnostics, from digital morphology and multiparameter flow cytometry to next-generation sequencing, multi-omics analysis, and emerging computational frontiers such as quantum-inspired feature selection. This review outlines how contemporary AI tools can automate labor-intensive quantitation, flag diagnostically salient patterns, and standardize interpretation, while the pathologist or hematologist retains authority over validation, context-specific integration, and clinical decision-making. We present an illustrative "human-in

Use of artificial intelligence in analysis of endoscopic images to detect residual disease or regrowth in rectal patients with complete clinical response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Patients with rectal cancer who have a complete clinical response (cCR) to neoadjuvant chemo/radiotherapy (nCRT) may opt for organ preservation and watch and wait (W&W). This consists of an intense surveillance program including serial endoscopies, pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), and computed tomography (CT) scans to detect regrowth at an early stage. However, residual lesions or regrowths can be challenging to identify endoscopically, due to mucosal changes such as friability and neovascularization. We developed a novel deep learning model

The Role of Neural Network for the Detection of Parkinson's Disease: A Scoping Review.

Background: Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder that has been ranked second after Alzheimer's disease worldwide. Early diagnosis of PD is crucial to combat against PD to allow patients to deal with it properly. However, there is no medical test(s) available to diagnose PD conclusively. Therefore, computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems offered a better solution to make the necessary data-driven decisions and assist the physician. Numerous studies were conducted to propose CAD to diagnose PD in the early stages. No comprehensive reviews have been conducted to summari

Molecular Imaging of the Heart.

Multimodality cardiovascular imaging is routinely used to assess cardiac function, structure, and physiological parameters to facilitate the diagnosis, characterization, and phenotyping of numerous cardiovascular diseases (CVD), as well as allows for risk stratification and guidance in medical therapy decision-making. Although useful, these imaging strategies are unable to assess the underlying cellular and molecular processes that modulate pathophysiological changes. Over the last decade, there have been great advancements in imaging instrumentation and technology that have been paralleled by

Internal hernia after pancreas transplantation with enteric drainage: an unusual cause of small bowel obstruction.

BACKGROUND: Although complications involving leaking at the enteric anastomosis site, graft thrombosis, and intraabdominal abscess formation have been well documented after pancreas transplantation, the occurrence of small bowel obstruction in this setting has received scant attention. Although uncommon, intestinal obstruction after pancreas transplantation may have atypical etiologies. In this article, we will review three unusual cases of intestinal obstruction in pancreas transplant recipients. On the Modeling of Patient-Specific Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: A Fluid-Structure Interaction Approach.

PURPOSE: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a minimally invasive treatment for high-risk patients with aortic diseases. Despite its increasing use, many influential factors are still to be understood and require continuous investigation. The best numerical approach capable of reproducing both the valves mechanics and the hemodynamics is the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) modeling. The aim of this work is the development of a patient-specific FSI methodology able to model the implantation phase as well as the valve working conditions during cardiac cycles. METHODS: The patient

CT-derived computational modelling in the lifetime management of aortic stenosis.

Lifetime management of aortic stenosis represents a growing procedural and clinical challenge. With recent clinical trials indicating that transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is at least on par with surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in treating lower risk patients, there has been a rise in TAVR uptake in younger, lower risk patients, leading to an increased likelihood of bioprosthetic valve degradation within a patient's lifetime. This shift in treatment has changed the landscape of interventional cardiology, incentivising the Heart Team to now plan for the initial procedure w

Functional outcome after non-surgical management of orbital fractures--the bias of decision-making according to size of defect: critical review of 48 patients.

The treatment of mild and moderate fractures of the orbital wall is controversial. Apart from clinical signs, the size of the defect is often used to aid the decision about treatment. We hypothesised that variables would be present that had an impact on the position and motility of the globe but were independent of the size of the defect, and prevented a balanced judgement of the outcome of conservative treatment. Between January 2000 and December 2007, 48 of 127 patients were included in this retrospective study to analyse the functional outcome of orbital fractures managed without operation.

Synchrony of anterior cingulate cortex and insular-striatal activation predicts ambiguity aversion in individuals with low impulsivity.

Personal attitude toward ambiguity contributes to individual differences in decision making in uncertain situations. Operationally, these attitudes reflect the various coping strategies elected to overcome the limited information. A key brain region involved in cognitive control for performance adjustments is the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dACC). To test how dACC functional network connectivity would be modulated by uncertainty and differ between individuals, 24 healthy participants underwent functional MRI in 3 sequential runs: 1 resting-state and 2 decision-making task runs. Individua

Children referred to an emergency department by an after-hours call center: complaint-specific analysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Approximately 20% of phone calls to after-hours call centers result in referrals to the emergency department (ED), but data regarding ED management and disposition are lacking. We sought to determine the acuity of illness of referred children as reflected by triage classifications and need for therapeutic interventions, diagnostic testing, and hospitalization, and to stratify the analysis of ED management and dispositions by chief complaints. DESIGN AND METHODS: Patients referred to the ED by the after-hours call centers, without physician consultation, were identif
