Radiation therapy has been a commonly employed modality for a variety of ailments, including cancer. Patients undergoing radiation often experience acute and/or chronic skin changes that can be detrimental to their quality of life. Many topical agents and specialized wound dressings are being used for the prevention and management of radiation-induced skin changes. However, no single therapeutic option has been found to be consistently effective.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Recall dermatitis is an uncommon entity that has been noted with patch testing, repeat exposures to a medication or allergen, and the concurrent use of ultraviolet radiation and certain medications. Methylisothiazolinone (MI) is a preservative found in cosmetic and industrial products. Contact dermatitis caused by either methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone (MCI/MI or Kathon CG) or MI has shown increasing frequency. The latter is preferably detected through epicutaneous testing with aqueous MI 2000 ppm, which is not included in the Brazilian standard tray. We describe a series of 23 patients tested using it and our standard tray. A case with negative reaction to MCI/MI and positive to MI is emphasized.

Diaper dermatitis leads to approximately 20% of all childhood dermatology visits. There have been several technologic advances in diaper design the last several years; however, due to the unique environment of the diaper area, many children continue to suffer from a variety of dermatologic conditions of this region. Common causes include allergic contact dermatitis, irritant contact dermatitis, infection, and psoriasis. Treatments include allergen avoidance, barrier protection, parent education, and topical therapies.

The major treatment strategies for DH are gluten restriction or medical treatment with sulfones. Control of the cutaneous manifestations, but not the gastrointestinal changes, is rapid with dapsone. In addition to control of the cutaneous signs and symptoms of DH, dietary gluten restriction also induces improvement of gastrointestinal morphology and is possibly protective against the development of lymphoma.

'Swimmer's itch' or cercarial dermatitis (CD) results from an immunological reaction to free-swimming non-human schistosome parasites released from aquatic snails. Affected bathers develop a self-limiting, pruritic, macular or papular eruption shortly after leaving the water. Twenty five cases (22 females) who attended the Dermatology out-patient in Dubai dermatology clinic, U.A.E were entered in this study.
