Fiberglass dermatitis: clinical presentations, prevention, and treatment - a review of literatures.

Fiberglass dermatitis is a common form of occupational irritant contact dermatitis. Individuals experience a negative reaction to fiberglass fragments because of mechanical irritation. This review comprehensively analyzes the information in the existing literature on fiberglass dermatitis. Recognizing the different environmental risks factors for acquiring fiberglass dermatitis is necessary for better diagnosis and prevention. In addition to the identification of high-risk populations exposed to fiberglass particles, the common clinical presentation and preventive measures that can reduce the

Occupational contact allergens: are they also associated with occupational asthma?

BACKGROUND: Workplace exposures that can potentially cause both allergic occupational contact dermatitis (AOCD) and occupational asthma (OA) are not clearly identified. METHODS: Occupational contact allergens (OCAs) were identified using North American Contact Dermatitis Group (NACDG) data. Reference documents and systematic reviews were used to determine whether each OCA had been reported to potentially cause OA. The presence or absence of a sensitizer notation in occupational hygiene reference documents was also examined. RESULTS: The 10 most common OCAs were: epoxy resin*, thiuram, carba

Occupational skin disease.

Contact dermatitis, the most common occupational skin disease, is characterized by clearly demarcated areas of rash at sites of exposure. The rash improves on removal of the offending agent. In allergic contact dermatitis, even minute exposures to antigenic substances can lead to a skin rash. Common sensitizing agents include nickel and members of the Rhus genus (e.g., poison ivy, poison oak). Severe skin irritants tend to cause immediate red blisters or burns, whereas weaker irritants produce eczematous skin changes over time. An occupational cause should be suspected when rash occurs in area

[Indications for referral to a skin allergy unit].

Contact dermatitis is one of the most common reasons for consultation in dermatology. However, general dermatologists do not always appreciate the importance of patch testing. These tests should ideally be performed in specialist skin allergy units, most importantly in cases suggestive of contact dermatitis, severe acute dermatitis, chronic persistent dermatitis, and dermatitis affecting the eyelids, genital region or adjacent to venous ulcers. Eczematous changes in pre-existing skin lesions or lesions at atypical sites in patients diagnosed with atopic eczema should also be investigated. Fina

Contact allergic dermatitis "current topic in tropical dermatology".

Out of a total of 2,666 new dermatology patients, 128 (4.8%) were clinically diagnosed as allergic contact dermatitis. Of these, 107 (4%) reacted positively to different antigens in the patch-test. The commonest contact sensitizers among females were nickel and dyes. Among male patients, the commonest sensitizers were mecaptobenzol-thiazole, chrome and nickel. The incidence of occupational contact dermatitis among bricklayers, construction workers and builders were found to be low and the sensitization rate against chromate was 0.6%. There was no sensitization against cobalt and nickel in the

Occupational allergic diseases as a clinical model to approach specific environmental reactivity.

Hyperreactivity to environmental factors is objectively expressed as respiratory, cutaneous and gastrointestinal disease. Approaching the diagnosis of an occupational disorder, a practical distinction was made between toxicity and allergy. The study of occupational allergic disease included particular procedures that led to standardized models and concepts. The contribution to the improvement of medical knowledge is reviewed according to selected experiences. The diagnostic aspects of asthma, rhinitis, dermatitis and urticaria are considered as regards to methodology of assessment of the occup

Advancing the understanding of allergic contact dermatitis: from pathophysiology to novel therapeutic approaches.

Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a common inflammatory skin disease that, especially when the condition becomes chronic, has a high impact on the quality of life and represents a significant disease burden. ACD represents a type IV delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction that is triggered by contact with an allergen in previously sensitized individuals through the activation of allergen-specific T cells. In the acute phase, it is characterized by eczematous dermatitis, which presents with erythema, edema, vesicles, scaling, and intense itch. Non-eczematous clinical forms are also described
