BACKGROUND: According to population-based studies that estimate disease prevalence, the majority of patients evaluated at dizziness clinics receive a single vestibular diagnosis. PURPOSE: Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) is one of the most frequently used surveys for vertigo. The aim of the study was re-analyze the consistency of subscales and correlation between original and different short forms.

CONCLUSIONS: Besides spontaneous attacks of vertigo or unsteadiness, other symptoms, i.e. drop attacks, lateropulsion, illusions that the room or body is tilted, 'walking on pillows' or 'stepping into a hole', occur without precipitating head movement in almost 50% of patients with peripheral vestibular dysfunctions. There are no epidemiological studies of orthostatic hypotension (OH)/hypertension (OHT) and orthostatic dizziness (OD) in adults across all age groups.
