Clinical Risk Factors and Outcomes of Spontaneous Hepatoblastoma Rupture in Children: A 10-Year Propensity Score-Matched Study.

Background: Spontaneous rupture of hepatoblastoma is uncommon but potentially fatal in children. Published cohorts often combine spontaneous, traumatic, biopsy-related, and treatment-associated events. We aimed to identify clinical risk factors for spontaneous rupture and evaluate its prognostic impact. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 106 children with pathologically confirmed hepatoblastoma treated at a tertiary center from July 2010 to July 2020. After excluding 10 with incomplete data or follow-up, 96 were eligible. Fourteen children who presented with spontaneous rupture were included

Alzheimer's disease-like brain pattern biomarker: capturing risks and predicting disease onset.

Preventing Alzheimer's disease (AD) requires early-warning biomarkers. We developed a Regional Vulnerability Index (RVI) that quantifies individual brain similarity to AD patients' expected brain deficit patterns. We calculated regional effect sizes to establish brain deficit patterns in amyloid-positive AD cases compared to amyloid-negative healthy controls. RVI-AD was calculated as a linear index of individual similarity to this established brain pattern in AD. We demonstrated RVI-AD elevation associated with risk factors in 335 participants (mean age: 49 ± 13 years) in the Amish Connectome

Prevalence of portal vein thrombosis in pediatric patients with cirrhosis and intrahepatic non-cirrhotic portal hypertension.

INTRODUCTION: Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) has been increasingly diagnosed in pediatric patients owing to the widespread use of non-invasive radiological techniques. Although the prevalence of PVT in adults with cirrhosis and intrahepatic non-cirrhotic portal hypertension ranges from 0.6 to 26 % and 13 to 46 %, respectively, no available data exist in the pediatric population. The prevalence of PVT in children with cirrhotic and intrahepatic non-cirrhotic portal hypertension was evaluated in this study. METHODS: This retrospective study included children with cirrhosis and intrahepatic non-ci

Evaluating the contribution of weather variables to machine learning forecasts of visceral leishmaniasis in Brazil.

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL), a deadly neglected tropical disease, remains a persistent public health challenge in Brazil, where transmission is shaped by interacting climatic, environmental, and sociodemographic factors. Despite evidence that weather conditions influence VL dynamics, they remain underutilized for outbreak prediction. This study evaluates whether climate-informed machine learning can support early warnings for VL in Brazil. We developed machine learning models to forecast monthly VL case counts and classify outbreak risk using data from 2007 to 2024 across 113 Brazilian municip
