Anaesthetic management for Caesarean section in a pre-eclamptic patient with Ebstein's anomaly and a right to left intracardiac shunt was accomplished under general anaesthesia. Air bubbles in the venous line were meticulously eliminated to prevent paradoxical air emboli. A rapid sequence induction using standard doses of thiopentone and succinylcholine did not result in loss of consciousness and muscle relaxation was inadequate for endotracheal intubation. This problem must be anticipated in patients with extremely enlarged right atria and the dose of induction agents should be increased. Car

The M-mode echocardiographic diagnosis of overriding tricuspid valve rests on the ability to demonstrate simultaneously two atrioventricular valves with no intervening septal echo [6, 13]. When scanning inferiorly toward the body of the ventricles, a distinct septal echo at the level of the midportion of the tricuspid valve can be detected. Here we report a case of Ebstein's anomaly, pulmonary stenosis, and ventricular septal defect (VSD), in which the echogram falsely indicated an overriding tricuspid valve.

A postmortem in a woman of 65 revealed Ebstein's anomaly of the heart with ventricular septum defect. The defect had been closed from the right side by the septal cups of the tricuspid valve coalescing with its edges. Literary sources refer to only 6 cases of Ebstein's anomaly in subjects older than our patient. The simultaneous presence of spontaneously closed defect of ventricular septum makes it an entirely exceptional case.

Ten adult patients with Ebstein's anomaly had open-heart operation for interruption of a Kent bundle. The 4 patients in Group 1 had arrhythmias. One patient had a patent foramen ovale, which was closed. In 3 patients the Kent pathway was identified and interrupted, but in the other only the pathway's anterograde function was interrupted, leaving the patient subject to supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). The 3 patients in Group 2 had mild to moderate cyanosis and dyspnea during SVT as well as mild impairment during strenuous physical activity. Only interruption of their Kent bundles and closure

Seventeen patients with Ebstein's malformation of the tricuspid valve have been evaluated. The majority of patients (11/17) presented in the newborn period with cyanosis and cardiomegaly. The remainder (6/17) were referred because of cardiomegaly on chest X-ray and/or a heart murmur heard on routine examination. Three patients have died; one in the newborn period and two suddenly at the age of 11 and 15 years. Thirteen patients have undergone right and left heart cardiac catheterization within the last seven years. Twelve of these 13 patients (92%) had angiocardiographic left ventricular contr

BACKGROUND: Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital heart disease characterized by apical displacement of the septal and posterior tricuspid valve leaflets. It is commonly associated with other defects such as patent foramen ovale or accessory atrioventricular pathways.
CASE SUMMARY: We describe a case of an Ebstein anomaly diagnosed in an adult in his 50s in association with a septal defect between the left ventricle and right atrium (Gerbode defect). The diagnosis was confirmed on magnetic resonance imaging. A third anomaly was noted on coronary angiography, consisting of an aberrant origin …

Individuals with the 18q deletion syndrome are presented with various clinical characteristics, including cardiac anomalies in 24-36% of the reported cases. Nonetheless, genotype-phenotype correlations for cardiac anomalies in the 18q deletion syndrome have rarely been reported. We report on two girls with a terminal 18q deletion, one in whom an Ebstein anomaly and Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome were detected and the other with multiple valve stenosis and a ventricular septal defect. The genotype and cardiac abnormalities of these girls and 17 other individuals with a de novo 18qter deletion r…

Interventricular septal hematoma (IVSH) is an extremely rare complication reported after the congenital heart surgery. An IVSH is defined as a hemorrhagic dissection between muscle bundles of the interventricular septum. Herein, we discuss a case of IVSH, which developed following one and half ventricular repair for Ebstein's anomaly in a 47-year-old lady. It appeared initially as an intraventricular mass on postoperative echocardiography creating a diagnostic dilemma. It was confirmed to be an IVSH on intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography during surgical re-exploration indicated for
