However, less is known about the tactics they use to do their work. This study reports results from five focus groups of outreach workers to understand: (1) their perceptions of vaccine confidence and hesitancy; (2) their specific tactics for rebuilding trust and delivering clear, consistent messages about the COVID-19 vaccine; and (3) the external environmental factors shaping

Toward Empowering Women in HIV Care: A Peer-Supported Patient-Initiated Viral Load Testing Cluster-Randomized Trial in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

BackgroundRoutine viral load testing (VLT) is critical for monitoring HIV treatment effectiveness, yet adherence to annual testing and patient engagement remain suboptimal, particularly among women. We evaluated a peer educator-supported, patient-initiated VLT approach in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.MethodsIn 2024, a two-arm cluster-randomized trial was conducted across six public HIV clinics. Intervention sites implemented a 4-6-month peer-supported program promoting patient-initiated VLT, while control sites continued routine care. Data from adult PLHIV were analyzed using regression models.Resu

Empowered yet dehumanized: perceptions of women's attractiveness in the context of gender earnings inequality.

Predictors of Assertive and Nonassertive Styles of Self-Defense Behavior During a Lab-Based Sexual Assault Scenario.

The current study examined how psychological factors influence hypothetical behavioral responses to threat (BRTT). College women (n = 113) with a history of sexual victimization completed a standardized lab-based self-defense scenario. Interpersonal skills, coping style, and assertive and nonassertive BRTT during a prior assault predicted assertive BRTT during the task. The use of nonassertive BRTT during past assaults no longer predicted assertive BRTT during the task when accounting for rape acknowledgment. Findings regarding rape acknowledgment demonstrate the complexity of recovery from se

Women speak. Healing the wounds of homelessness through writing.

The Women Speak writing project explores the use of writing as a therapeutic process with homeless women at an urban drop-in center. The project was developed in response to the women's desire to give voice to their experiences. By speaking about and sharing the experiences of their lives, a sense of empowerment through expression began. Nursing students and faculty working at the drop-in center were challenged to re-think the traditional clinical site relationship which gives highest priority to meeting the needs of students and faculty.

Rationale and design of a multidomain lifestyle program for mild cognitive impairment.

The development of non-pharmacological treatment approaches is supported by evidence that addressing key modifiable risk factors may prevent or delay up to 45% of dementia cases. The Charlie and Harriet Shaffer Cognitive Empowerment Program (CEP) was developed to address current gaps in access to, and evidence for, interventions that reduce lifestyle risk factors and improve quality of life in individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Co-designed with patients and families, clinicians, researchers, and industry professionals, the CEP is situated in a conceptual framework that guides as…
