Parental burnout among military fathers: The moderating roles of unit support, marital satisfaction, and emotional regulation strategies.

OBJECTIVE: The military family stress model (Gewirtz et al., 2018) was used to examine the associations between deployment experiences, interpersonal relationships, and four aspects of parental burnout-emotional exhaustion, contrast in parental self, fed-up feelings, and emotional distancing from the child-among military fathers. The study focused on testing main and moderating effects for these variables. METHOD: A total of 105 Israeli military fathers deployed to combat zones completed self-report questionnaires on deployment exposure, emotion regulation, unit and spousal support, and paren

Heterozygous liver transplantation for maple syrup urine disease: First European reported case.

MSUD is an autosomal recessive metabolic disorder that results from a defect in the BCKDH enzyme. This enzyme is essential for the second step in the metabolism of the branched-chain amino acids, leucine, isoleucine, and valine. Patients with MSUD are subject to severe, irreversible neurologic injury unless closely managed with a specialized metabolic formula and a diet restricted in leucine throughout their lifetime. During times of illness, patients with MSUD can suffer from severe metabolic derangement, acute cerebral edema, and untimely death. Deceased donor liver transplant restores the a

Perceived social support as a moderator of posttraumatic stress in parents of children with autism spectrum disorder.

Parents of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often face elevated psychological distress, including symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This study explored whether perceived social support moderates the relationship between parental gender and PTSD risk. A cross-sectional correlational study was conducted among 142 Arabic-speaking parents (equally distributed between mothers and fathers) recruited from 10 ASD treatment centers in central Jordan. Participants completed standardized measures of PTSD symptoms and perceived social support, along with demographic

[The analysis of early stressful life events and parental relationships among patients after suicide attempts].

A lot of data in literature shows the importance of early stressful life events for the later existence and possible difficulties including suicide behaviours in adult life. The aim of the study was to identify the intensity of traumatic events in childhood and adolescence and distinguish the most significant categories of those events. Remarkable is the fact that the patients who experienced in the childhood situations of emotional abuse focused on the negative attitude of the environment (79%) and physical violence (78%) represented the largest proportion of subjects. Specific difficulties d

Parental autistic traits and neurodevelopmental outcomes in children with autism spectrum disorder: a family phenotype perspective.

BACKGROUND: Parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often exhibit subclinical autistic traits, known as the Broad Autism Phenotype (BAP). While BAP is recognized as a familial characteristic associated with ASD, limited evidence exists regarding how specific parental traits relate to children's behavioral, adaptive, and developmental outcomes in low- and middle-income clinical settings. Understanding these associations may be relevant for developmental and neurorehabilitation contexts in which parent - child interaction plays an important role in the child's learning environmen

Quality of Parental Care and Traumatic Experiences in Childhood Related to Schizophrenic Disorders.

In recent times, an increasing interest in the role of childhood adversities in schizophrenia can be seen. In this study, 37 schizophrenic patients were compared with 25 individuals from the general population with regard to the quality of parental care and traumatic experiences in childhood. Two self-report scales for retrospective measurement of these variables were used that differentiate between maternal and paternal rejection, emotional warmth and control on the one hand, and trauma subtypes on the other. The schizophrenic patients scored lower regarding both parents' emotional warmth and

Examining the roles of victim-perpetrator relationship and emotional closeness in judgments toward a depicted child sexual abuse case.

The current study investigated the impact that respondent gender, victim-perpetrator relationship, and the level of emotional closeness had on attributions in a hypothetical child sexual abuse case. A total of 160 university students read a hypothetical scenario depicting a female child sexually abused by an adult male. The perpetrator was either the victim's biological father or her stepfather, with this relationship described as being either emotionally close or emotionally distant. Respondents read one of four (2 victim-perpetrator relationship × 2 emotional closeness) scenarios before comp

Two-Compound Heterozygous Deletions Affecting TUBGCP6 in a Patient with Microcephaly and Ocular Abnormalities and in an Unborn Sibling with Abnormal Sulcation.

INTRODUCTION: TUBGCP6-related disorder is a known cause of autosomal recessive microcephaly and chorioretinopathy, which was originally recognized as a new syndrome based on unique ocular findings on a phenotypic overlap of microcephalic primordial short stature. Since the elucidation of its molecular mechanism, limited families have been published in literature and the disorder remains rare worldwide. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the first Indian family with an affected child and sibling fetus with microcephaly, dysmorphism, and agyria/pachygyria complex on brain imaging in both and short s

The role of severity perceptions and beliefs in natural infections in Shanghai parents' vaccine decision-making: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: China has reduced incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases through its Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI). Vaccines outside of the EPI are not provided for free by the government, however. This study explored how the stated importance of different disease and vaccine-related attributes interacted with beliefs about the immune system of a child to affect Chinese parents' decision to obtain a non-EPI vaccine. METHODS: Mothers and fathers of young children at immunization clinics in Shanghai, China, were interviewed about vaccine decision-making and what attributes of a disease

Individual, family, and social risk factors for child-to-parent violence in non-emancipated young adults.

OBJECTIVE: Child-to-parent violence (CPV) has been generally investigated during adolescence, whereas less attention has been paid to young adults who continue to live with their parents. Grounded in an ecological framework, this study aimed to examine how individual, familial, and social risk factors jointly relate to CPV toward mothers and fathers in a non-clinical sample of non-emancipated young adults, thereby extending existing evidence to a developmentally and culturally relevant population. METHODS: Participants were 1,064 Italian young adults aged 18-25 years who had lived regularly w
