A number of complications are reported with the use of intrauterine contraceptive devices. These may pursue asymptomatic course or present as an acute abdomen after migration into peritoneal cavity. The authors here are reporting an abdominal wall swelling caused by transuterine migration of a copper intrauterine contraceptive device in a 28-year-old female. An open approach was used, and impacted foreign body was retrieved.

Urological foreign bodies, while uncommon, represent a clinically significant challenge due to their diverse aetiologies. They often lead to complex diagnostic dilemmas and require tailored, sometimes multidisciplinary, therapeutic interventions. These may result from self-insertion, penetrating trauma, or transorganic migration, and are associated with major complications such as infection, obstruction, and fistula formation. This series of cases attempts to demonstrate the varied aetiologies, diagnostic difficulties, and treatment approaches of urological foreign bodies seen in a tertiary re

We present a rare case of a male patient who presented following self-injection of silicone sealant into a condom placed within the urethra that migrated intravesically. The patient had mild voiding symptoms and haematuria. Imaging demonstrated radio-opaque foreign material extending from the bulbar urethra into the bladder. Endoscopic retrieval was unsuccessful due to the material's size and consistency. Definitive management was achieved via open Pfannenstiel cystotomy, with intact removal of the foreign body and uneventful recovery. Follow-up cystography and flow rate studies within two mon

Sialolithiasis is a relatively frequent occurrence, but the etiology of sialoliths remains unclear. Foreign bodies might enter the salivary duct and induce sialoliths by retrograde migration or penetrating trauma. Several reports have involved salivary duct stones formed around a foreign body, such as fishbone, vegetable seed, grass blade, et al. However, an iatrogenic foreign body-induced sialolith is scarcely reported. Thread lifting is a minimally invasive technique for facial rejuvenation with the advantages of short recovery, good-lifting and high satisfaction rate. The injury of the Sten

Obstructive sialadenitis of submandibular gland is commonly due to sialoliths and strictures in the Wharton's duct. Other endogenous pathologies include mucous plugs and polyps. Foreign bodies of Wharton's duct and submandibular gland are rare. Retrograde migration of foreign bodies via ductal orifice, traversing the ductal system to its final intraglandular location is an even rare entity. These often present with painful swelling of the gland and at times with a purulent sialitis. Diagnostic modalities include plain radiography, ultrasonography, sialography, as well as computed tomography an

Bladder stones are usually seen among patients with bladder outlet obstruction, especially in men over the age of 50 years. There are several risk factors for bladder stones, including urinary tract infections, abnormal urinary tract system anatomy, and presence of foreign bodies. In addition, migrating intrauterine contraceptive devices through the wall of the urinary bladder and foreign bodies such as surgical sutures may act as a nidus for developing stone formation. Here in, we report a case of bladder stone associated with surgical non-absorbable suture, used for gynecologic surgery 4 yea

RATIONALE: Migratory esophageal foreign bodies (EFB) with submucosal migration and infection pose significant challenges in high-risk elderly patients. While standard endoscopy manages superficial cases, guidelines lack strategies for deeply embedded EFBs with infection risks. This study aims to evaluate endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) combined with en bloc extraction and precision debridement as a nonsurgical approach for octogenarians, specifically addressing infection control issues in endoscopic EFB management.
PATIENT CONCERNS: In this report, we present a case of an 84-year-old w

A 4-year-old male intact Kerry Blue Terrier presented with lethargy, pyrexia, intermittent cough, and a large, firm right ventral cervical mass. Contrast-enhanced head and neck CT revealed a focally expansile, ill-defined, mixed-attenuation lesion with gas bubbles, suggestive of extensive cellulitis and abscessation, in close communication with the cervical esophagus, which appeared focally disrupted. The adjacent common carotid artery was also focally dilated and tortuous. Findings were suggestive of esophageal rupture and secondary carotid artery pseudoaneurysm, likely caused by a penetratin

A 33G, 12-mm needle broke and entered the soft tissue in a 60-year old man. Panoramic X-ray imaging and cone-beam computed tomography (CT), which we performed a few hours after the breakage, revealed the needle in the soft tissue of the lower right mandibular molar. We immediately made an incision in the buccal gingiva of the lower right mandibular molar under local anesthesia and attempted to remove the needle but could not locate it. Thereafter, we adopted a watch-and-wait approach, as the patient had no subjective symptoms. Nine months later, we confirmed via CT that the needle had migrated

Spontaneous pneumothorax induced by grass awns accounts for 5% of spontaneous pneumothorax and 22.5% of thoracic grass awn cases. Previous studies report limited interest of CT for spontaneous pneumothorax. Aims of this retrospective case series were to describe CT features of this condition and determine if CT features can efficiently localize the perforation site. Dogs that had a spontaneous pneumothorax, CT examination, thoracic surgery, and confirmed lung perforation due to a grass awn were included. Computed tomography studies were reviewed and compared to the surgical findings. In 19 of

After a positive faecal occult blood test, a 60-year-old woman underwent a screening colonoscopy which identified a malignant-looking ulcer in the ascending colon. Biopsies from the lesion were inconclusive. A subsequent CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis commented on a polypoid lesion in the ascending colon. A colorectal cancer multidisciplinary team discussion concluded that a right hemicolectomy was indicated as the lesion was suspicious for malignancy. Intraoperatively, there was a firm ascending colon mass adherent to the abdominal wall, which was resected with clear margins. There were no

INTRODUCTION: Surgical hip dislocation with trochanteric osteotomy was introduced for the treatment of femoroacetabular impingement and other intra-articular pathologies of the hip. We expanded the indications to include removal of retained bullets in the hip joint as an alternative to hip arthroscopy.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We present a prospective case series of ten patients that were treated with a surgical hip dislocation for removal of retained bullets in the hip joint between January 2014 and October 2015 in a Level 1 trauma centre. The main outcome measurements were successful bullet re

We report a 58-year-old woman who presented with dysphagia and recurrent episodes of coughing and choking during swallowing 10 years after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion with implantation of an anterior cervical plate. Barium esophagography revealed erosion of the cervical plate through the posterior wall of the pharyngoesophageal junction with an extraluminal collection that extended inferiorly as a track through the posterior wall of the trachea, producing a pharyngotracheal fistula. The pharyngeal perforation was repaired and the cervical hardware removed at surgery. This rare comp

In this paper, we present the case of a 35-year-old Caucasian female, instituted for depression, who swallowed two sewing needles. Despite the fact that the patient on presentation was asymptomatic with a normal clinical examination and blood tests, the workup revealed a contained perforation of the upper gastrointestinal tract (GI) and a migration of one needle to the liver. Moreover, the endoscopy alone failed to remove the other needle, which was stuck in the duodenal wall and, therefore, a combined endoscopic and laparoscopic approach was successfully applied to remove both needles through

A 45-year-old patient had routine cosmetic bilateral breast augmentation 6 years previously using cohesive gel implants. She presented 4 years later with a breast lump and multiple axillary lymph nodes. Exploration revealed that the breast implant had a large tear at the posterior wall of the shell with intra-capsular leakage of silicone. The axilla had eight enlarged lymph node--all were removed. Histology showed silicone granuloma in the capsule and silicone lymphadenitis. High cohesive gel implants may not be as safe as is commonly believed and all implant ruptures, irrespective of the cohe

Caterpillar hairs disseminated by the wind can cause serious ocular problems in humans. We present 4 cases of corneal lesions caused by caterpillar hairs. Intense functional signs observed in exposed subjects should bring this diagnosis to mind. The severity of this affection is due to the possibility of intraocular migration, even many years after the first accident. Treatment consists of removing the caterpillar hair associated with an antibiotic and local anti-inflammatory treatment.

Background: Endotracheal tube securement devices are used to reduce the incidence of unplanned extubation of intubated patients. We describe the ingestion of part of an endotracheal tube securement device by a neonate to bring awareness of the risk of ingestion or aspiration of endotracheal tube securement device components in this population. Case Report: A 13-day-old, former 31-week gestational age female infant was noted on routine radiologic evaluation to have a foreign body in the gastrointestinal tract. The foreign body was thought to be an artifact or an object overlying the radiologic
