BACKGROUND: In general, atlantoaxial dislocation is rare due to the stability of the C1-C2 complex. Traumatic atlantoaxial dislocations are usually anterior and accompanied by odontoid fractures. Posterior atlantoaxial dislocations are rare, and complete posterior dislocation without associated fracture is even more rare. A case of early recurrence of posterior atlantoaxial dislocation without fracture being in therapy of first closed reduction and then open reduction has not been previously reported.
CASE SUMMARY: A 45-year-old female presented with traumatic posterior atlantoaxial dislocati

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the anatomic risk factors associated with dislocation following bipolar hemiarthroplasty for the treatment of femoral neck fracture.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 208 consecutive patients (133 women, 75 men) with femoral neck fractures who were treated with bipolar hemiarthroplasty between 2015 and 2018. A comparative analysis was performed between dislocation (n = 18) and non-dislocation (n = 190) groups in terms of patient demographics, surgical and pelvic morphologic factors, and clinical outcomes, including postoperative Harris

INTRODUCTION: Talus fractures are not uncommon and one of the serious fractures in the foot and ankle. Peroneal tendon dislocation is one of the commonly missed soft tissue injuries which may have significant impact on the outcomes including persistent pain and swelling. They have been reported to be associated with calcaneum as well as talus fractures.
AIM: To report the incidence of peroneal tendon dislocation in talus fracture and the significance of fleck sign in the diagnosis of peroneal tendon dislocation.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 93 consecutive talus fractures in the perio

INTRODUCTION: The role of bipolar radial head prostheses (RHP) in elbow fracture-dislocation is controversial, with some reports of poorer stabilization than with monopolar designs. The aim of the present study was to compare mono- versus bi-polar RHPs in elbow fracture-dislocation. The study hypothesis was that mono- and bi-polar RHPs do not differ in clinical and radiological results, complications or revision rates.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A single-center retrospective study included 58 patients, with a mean age of 55 years (range, 21-84 years). All received RHP for elbow dislocation with as

We present a unique case of an open talar neck fracture with medial subtalar joint dislocation. This rare and traumatic injury was treated with immediate open reduction of the subtalar joint and open reduction internal fixation of the talar neck fracture. After a follow-up of 2.2 years, highlighted by numerous complications including posttraumatic arthritis, soft tissue abscess, and fibrotic adhesions, the patient recovered sufficiently to return full activity.

INTRODUCTION: Traumatic dislocation of the hip with ipsilateral fracture neck femur is a rare injury because of the different mechanism of both these injuries. The management of such injuries is a challenge as the chances of nonunion and avascular necrosis of femoral head are very high with fixation methods. We report a case of obturator dislocation of the hip with ipsilateral fracture neck of the femur which was treated with uncemented total hip replacement.
CASE REPORT: A 32-year-old male sustained obturator dislocation with ipsilateral fracture neck femur following road traffic accident. A

We report the unusual case of a 16-year-old young man who sustained a rare association of a Hawkins' type-II talar neck fracture with a complete medial subtalar dislocation (Hawkins type-IIB) that occurred as an isolated injury after indirect trauma during a soccer game. Following closed reduction of the subtalar dislocation, standard radiographs and computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a comminuted fracture of the talus involving the base of the talar neck. Open reduction was performed and the fracture was stabilized by ORIF. At 1-year follow-up, functional and radiographic outcomes were gra

Irreducible ankle fracture-dislocations are rare. Several cases of irreducible ankle fracture-dislocation have been reported in published studies secondary to the tibialis posterior tendon, deltoid ligament, or extensor digitorum longus tendon blocking the reduction. We report a case of irreducible ankle fracture-dislocation resulting from posteromedial subluxation of the tibialis anterior tendon around a medial malleolar fracture fragment. Ultimately, the ankle required open reduction of the incarcerated tendon to reduce the joint and proceed with internal fixation of the associated fracture.

Terrible triad elbow injuries, consisting of fractures of the radial head and coronoid with ulnohumeral dislocation, are challenging to treat. They require a comprehensive understanding of the complex anatomy of the elbow to effectively treat all of the pathology and create a stable, congruent joint. The authors present a case of a terrible triad injury with avulsion of the triceps and flexor-pronator mass after a low-energy fall in a young patient. Although most terrible triad fracture-dislocations can be successfully treated with coronoid fixation, radial head fixation or replacement, and re

Fracture-dislocations of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint are complex and challenging to manage once they become chronic. We report a case of PIP joint fracture-dislocation treated by hemi-hamate arthroplasty. An 18-year-old male polytrauma patient presented with a neglected PIP joint fracture-dislocation in the third finger of the left hand. After four months of follow-up, he remained disabled due to clinodactyly and stiffness. After performing a cadaver study to evaluate the feasibility of grafting, we resurfaced the bone-cartilage defect with a hemi-hamate arthroplasty. The range of

We present an extreme rare case of traumatic partial avascular necrosis of the lunate after palmar perilunate dislocation with lunate fracture. A 32-year-old female was injured by motorcycle accident with palmar perilunate fracture dislocation and lunate fracture. Scapholunate and lunotriquetrum dislocations were reduced and fixed temporarily. The torn dorsal ligament was repaired. Considering close observation with both arthroscopy and fluoroscopy, we decided not to conduct open reduction and internal fixation for the lunate. Partial avascular necrosis of the lunate appeared gradually in foll…

INTRODUCTION: Osteomyelitis of the pelvis can be a difficult condition to diagnose and can present in a number of different ways. The ilium is the bone most frequently affected and staphylococcus aureus is the organism most commonly responsible.
CASEREPORT: This case report describes a six year old girl, who presented with right sided hip pain, fevers and altered weight bearing. She was initially diagnosed with septic arthritis of the hip and underwent open joint washout. A magnet resonance imaging scan was subsequently performed which confirmed the diagnosis of iliac osteomyelitis with absce

Although posttraumatic pelvic heterotopic ossification (HO) after hip fracture dislocation is well established, and nerve encasement by HO may occur, the development of neurologic deficit is rare. A thorough history and adequate clinical suspicion are imperative in the workup of affected patients. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging provide good visualization and assist in surgical planning. If symptoms persist and are recalcitrant to conservative management, surgical intervention with HO excision and nerve neurolysis can be performed with success.

Hip dislocations are emergently reduced to decrease the chance of avascular necrosis of the femoral head. However, in some situations, the dislocation may be irreducible by a closed technique. Rarely, the fractured femoral head may become perched on an intact acetabulum, leading to an irreducible fracture-dislocation. This rare type of irreducible fracture-dislocation demonstrates unique physical and associated radiographic findings. These fractures are important to recognize early, as attempts at closed reduction can lead to femoral neck fractures.

Subtalar dislocation is an uncommon injury that affects the talocalcaneal and talonavicular joints, with the tibiotalar and calcaneocuboid joints remaining intact. The 4 types of subtalar dislocation are medial, lateral, anterior, and posterior, although the latter 2 are rare. These injuries-especially lateral dislocation-occur as a result of high-energy trauma. Medial dislocation is the most common type, and lateral dislocation is associated with osteochondral fractures of the talus and calcaneus, as well as with open injuries; hence, its worse prognosis. We report the case of a 62-year-old w

OBJECTIVE: To explore the minimally invasive treatment for fresh acromioclavicular dislocation and the distal clavicle fracture.
METHODS: Thirty skeletons of human shoulder were measured and compared, and the normal data on healthy people were measured with the help of ultrasound-guided. So the invasion point was located at the cross between subclavian axis and the line from coracoid tip to apophysis behind cone ligament node. From January 2001 to January 2010, 127 patients with fresh acromioclavicular dislocation and distal clavicle fracture were treated with minimally invasive internal fixa
